Introduction: Connecting a Laptop to a TV

Meetings now incorporate visual presentations to actively involve employees and maintain their focus throughout. Instead of relying on printed handouts, laptops connected to TVs are utilized, saving time and resources typically spent on things like ink and paper. This setup enables everyone to view the laptop's content on a larger screen, enhancing visibility and comprehension. It also offers flexibility for presenters to integrate various media types, update content in real-time, and encourage collaboration among participants. Overall, this approach modernizes meetings, making them more engaging and cost-effective while aligning with sustainable practices.

Supplies

Here are the 3 supplies you will need in order to follow these steps correctly and efficiently.

-A fully charged laptop or computer with an HDMI connector

-An HDMI cord with no gashes or cuts in the wiring (This could potentially cause a fire)

-A Televison with an HDMI inserter.

By the conclusion of this tutorial, you'll have the skills to effectively connect your laptop to a television with ease. This method will decrease the time and effort required for preparing handouts and will also give you access to watch any movie, sports game, presentation, and YouTube video streamed from your laptop! This also can come in handy while presenting a certain presentation to a group of people. If these steps 1-4 are followed correctly, you should be streaming from your laptop to TV in no time at all!

Step 1: Charge Your Laptop Fully

Charging your laptop or computer to 100% lets you to have access to whatever you're visually watching for a longer period of time. This will allow you to stream for the maximum time possible. You can purchase a laptop from Amazon, Walmart, Staples and even Apple! They generally are in the price range from $200-$1,200. Depending on what kind of laptop you would like. For brands, I will be demonstrating with my HP laptop which costed me roughly $400. I do know that a lot of MacBooks do not have HDMI ports, so buying a laptop from them may not be the best bet!

Step 2: Turn Your TV On

Turn your TV on, but you have to make sure that your TV has an HDMI cord hole, allowing this connection to be able to occur. If your TV does not have an HDMI hole (mostly every TV does have one) then I would simply try asking a friend to borrow their TV. Once your TV is on, make sure that it is just a blank screen. If something if viewing still, you must change your HDMI number. This could be HDMI1, 2, or 3. Televisions usually show the number of HDMIs on the back next to the plug-ins. You will not need access to a smart TV for this to work, mostly any TV will work. I will be using a Sceptre television for my demonstration, and it costed me roughly $100. You can buy TVs from Walmart, Costco, Amazon, and other stores.

Step 3: Plug the HDMI Into the TV and Laptop Simultaneously

Take the HDMI cord and plug one side into the TV, while the other side is plugged into the laptop. This gives a connection that will stream anything that is on the laptop to the TV. Make sure that the channels are matching up with the correct HDMI number. Most televisions have 1 or 2 HDMI jacks, so make sure you have found the correct one for your TV. HDMI cables are generally cheap, you can purchase one of these online, at Walmart or even Staples! They cost roughly $15.

Step 4: You Can Now Stream Anything You'd Like!

You now have access to stream any presentation, movie, sporting event, and even YouTube! There are endless functions you are able to do with this versatile feature, so make the most of it!

Step 5: Putting It All Away

When you're finished streaming whatever you wanted, putting it all away is the easiest part. Just put your laptop back on the charger because it is probably dead. Then, turn your TV off. Wherever you would like to store your HDMI cord, it can go at this time.
