Introduction: Cookbook Stand
My son started putting all my wife's recipes into a cookbook. A real cookbook (for family only). It's roughly a 130 recipes, complete with family pictures. Volume 2 will be pushed out on Amazon for purchase for the general public. So I thought I had to up my game and make a cookbook stand for this treasure.
First, though, start with mixed pieces of wood strips. Cut with Table Saw and Radial Arm Saw.
Supplies
Glue all pieces together, spreading glue evenly. A random physical model was used for the approximation of dimensions. Use clamps and cauls to secure tightly.
Step 1:
After letting the glue dry for 24 hours, it's time to trim the edges, plane, then add a tongue and groove look. This can add appeal instead of a simple face glue joint. Use a Router with a straight bit for this. and add some detail with a laser.
Step 2:
Before adding the stand, a laser was employed for a custom look. Creating the stand so that it is secure with a large book proved challenging and went through several design iterations. I finally decided on a hinge to attach mixed with a swivel joint that wedges into the stand itself. Solid. Add a stain to make the grain pop and preserve it. Of course, it folds on the hinge for storage...Make it FOLD :)
