Introduction: Corkscrew Wedding Invitation

This instructable is intended to help you design a custom corkscrew wedding invitation.

In order to complete this instructable you will need to have access to:

  • 3D printer (I used a BEEVERYCREATIVE BEETHEFIRST)
  • Rotary tool (I used a Dremel 300)
  • Suport for cork drilling (I printed my own using a Igus® drylin® toolkit sample)
  • Corks
  • 1.75mm plastic filament for printing and corkscrew axis.

The files provided were modelled using SolidWorks® 2014 x64 edition.

All parts were printed in PLA, however you may use other materials.

Step 1: Drill Press for Cork Drilling

If you already have a drill press you my use it and skip this step.

For the current step you need:

Print the provided STL files using a 3D printer with a material of your choice (I used PLA with 5% density).

  1. Mount SuporteDremelFrente part and SuporteDremelTras part in the drylin carriage.
  2. Insert the guide into the SuporteRolha part.
  3. Insert a vacuum cleaner tube into the back of the SuporteRolha part.
  4. You may now start drilling the corks

You may check the attached video to verify its operation.

Step 2: Prepare Invitation Paper

In this step you should prepare the invitation paper.

Use PowerPoint® or a similar app to design your custom invitation paper.

You may find an example attached to this instructable.

Step 3: Prepare Cork

In this step we will prepare the cork to receive the invitation paper and glue the paper.

We will need:

  • Drilled corks
  • x-knife
  • Invitation paper
  • super glue

After drilling a through hole in the cork we will need to open a small cut in the cork to insert the invitation paper. The cut will depend on the size of the invitation paper. A 3mm deep cut should be enough for most.

Follow these steps:

  1. Open a cut in the cork
  2. apply a small portion on glue to the cork
  3. insert the invitation paper
  4. let it dry

Step 4: Print and Assembly the Corkscrew

In this step we will print and assembly the corkscrew. You will need:

  • A 3D printer
  • A small portion of 1.75mm filament
  • cork with glued invitation paper
  • Raffia ribbon or other material of your choice

Attached to this intractable are the Solidworks® drawings of both parts. To change the name and date on the handle edit sketch5 of the feature "Cut Extrude 3" as seen in the attached print screens.

To complete this step follow the following instructions:

  1. Edit text in Solidworks® drawing
  2. Export .STL
  3. Print a ScrewV2.STL part. At the end verify that the hole is clear enough to pass the 1.75mm filament.
  4. Print your custom CorkscrewHold.STL
  5. Inset the ScrewV2 part inside the cork
  6. Insert the last assembly in the CorkscrewHold part and align both holes
  7. Insert a small portion of filament through the holes and press it through
  8. Roll the invitation paper around the cork and fix it with the raffia ribbon
  9. Finalize the invite by applying a node of your choice.
