Introduction: Craft Foam Batman Alternate Universe Gauntlets

These gauntlets are inspired by an alternate universe batman suit designed by 3d artist Adam Fisher.

Step 1: Supplies

  • Craft foam sheets 2mm & 3mm
  • Self-healing Mat and x-acto knife
  • Standard scissors
  • Gorilla glue
  • Super glue
  • Elastic strap material
  • Plasti-Dip

Step 2: Create Your Pattern

It took some time for me to get the dimensions correct. But all in all I am happy with it. I decided I was going to cut out the material from the bottom part of the forearm so that I can attach straps. Ultimately, it will be easier to put on and move around with.

Printed, cut and taped.

Step 5: Cut Layers Out of Foam and Glue Together With Gorilla Glue

Unfortunately this was the only shot I took during construction. The backing and the top most layers was made out of the 2mm thick foam and the rest out of the 3mm foam.

Step 6: Spray, Bend & Attach Elastic

After the glue dries, spray at least 3 coats of Plasti-Dip to the front side. When that dries, bend and super glue the elastic straps. Measure carefully.

Step 7: Add Blades

I decided I was going to add the blades after the piece was bent so they fall in the correct place.

  • First I freehanded some blades for a good size then cut them out with a scissor. I placed the pattern side by side so I can eliminate a lot of waste.
  • Then after marking the location of each blade with a sharpie, I glued them on with Gorilla glue. Since it takes a little bit for this type of glue to set, I used blue painter's tape I had lying around to secure them upright.
  • After the glue was dried, I re-sprayed with Plasti-Dip.

Step 8: Bonus: Mask & Shin Guards

I purchased this full mask from Rubie's. After trimming the face away and opening up the eyes a bit, I sprayed it with 3 layers of Plasti-Dip. It gave the mask more of a structure and added a little bit of a sheen to it. The shin guards are a work in progress and still need to be sprayed.
