Introduction: Crayon Box House

About: Just an amateur art-lover :)

Inspired by the "Crayons Competition", I've decided to make the crayon holder (or case) in the shape of a crayon and wanted to use the top part as a little room (Crayonwoman's room) to make it cute and interesting. Since the top part of the crayon is in form of a cone, it looks like a roof of the room.

The crayon holder consists of two parts - the bottom part, which is used to keep the crayons inside, and the top part- designed as a tiny room with a roof. I added a thread to these two parts to assemble them.

Supplies

3D printer (any will work)

acrylic paint (of the desired colours)

a couple of brushes

sandpaper

primer

glue (to stick the furniture in the room to the floor, I used silicone glue)

crayons (to fill the inside)

some tiny decorations (of your choice)

Step 1: Print All the Parts

First off, you need to print all the parts. I have given the files in the STL formats, so that you can download them with ease. The top and bottom parts of the crayon and the furniture are printed separately.

When printing the top part (where the room is) I have used the "tree support". It is strongly advised to you as well, as it came out pretty well. When printing furniture, print with the smallest nozzle diameter possible and keep the layer height as thin as possible, too.

P.S. I have attached the 3D model of chair, too, but my print of the chair didn t come out well, since it is tiny. If you have a small nozzle diameter, it can work. I, instead of this chair, used a tiny toy-chair.

Step 2: Clean Out the Prints

Let's get to the finishing process. Take out all the support structures from the parts.  In order to make the flawless final surface for paint, we need to sand the outside of the crayon and then apply the primer. Since I had little time for this step, I couldn't do it accurately enough, but you can do better for sure if you put enough time on it.

Sand the whole outside surface of the crayon. (Also, if threads don't fit well, sand them a little bit, especially the scars, if any)

Then to make it ready for the primer, clean all the dust with the wet towel.

After that, apply the thin layer of the primer on the visible outside surface of the crayon holder. If you do it with the spray primer, the next step will be painting. If you use the brush for priming process, you need to sand once again after the primer dries out.

And now the fan part! Get artistic with your acrylic paint! I used white and orange colours. I painted the top and little bit of bottom of the crayon with orange, the rest with white. Also, I added some patterns with the brush on the outer surface.

Step 3: Glue the Decorations

In this step, the first thing you want to do is to glue the furniture on the room floor. I thought it looks too simple, and added some small sunflower and strawberry decorations that I have bought in the dollar store. You can, of course, use your own DIY decorations as well.

Since I wanted to make my Crayon house look like an old tree house, I glued my sunflowers around the door of the room as if they have grown there as ivy.

Step 4: Put the Crayons Inside

As a last step, put your crayons inside the bottom part of the holder and then assemble. That's it! Now, you have your own Crayon house and case :) It is not only nice-looking but useful as well. Put it in the favourite part of your or your child's desk.

P.S. You can add a LED to serve as a lamp inside.
