Introduction: Create Your Custom LED Logo With WS2812B and WLED

In this project, I’ll show you how I created my illuminated logo using WS2812B LEDs controlled via WLED and a D1 Mini, all enclosed in a 3D-printed frame. I decided to share it because I hope it can inspire you and give you the right tips to create your own custom logo original, bright, and truly unique! Let your creativity shine!

Step 1: 📐3D Design & Printing

The logo was designed in 3D and printed in PLA. The main parts are 3 mm thick (15% infill), and the light diffusers are 1.5 mm thick with 100% infill to ensure proper light diffusion.

Step 2: 🔩Frame Assembly

We use two-part epoxy for the main frame and cyanoacrylate glue for the rear spacer. This spacer hides the electronics behind the lightning bolt section of the logo.

Step 3: 🌈Installing the LED Strip

Measure and cut the LED strip as needed. Solder the wires at both ends before attaching it inside the lightning bolt. Ensure the signal flow follows the correct direction.

Step 4: 🔌Mounting the Electronic Components

Solder a connector for the LED strip to the D1 Mini, create a connector using the perfboard, screw terminals, and pin headers, and fix both components in place with hot glue in the logo area. Also solder the capacitor and place it in its slot, connect the LED strip, and finally secure the power cables as well. Follow the included wiring diagram.

Step 5: 💾Installing WLED

Connect the D1 to your PC and go to install.wled.me. Install the latest stable version (check the link for the full tutorial), configure Wi-Fi, device name, max current, GPIO pin (2), and number of LEDs (e.g., 141).

Step 6: 🔧Segment Setup & Presets

To control each part of your logo separately, create segments in WLED (e.g., lightning, right side, left side, outer ring). Assign different colors/effects to each. Save your combinations as presets, then create a playlist to rotate them automatically.

Step 7: 🧷Wall Mounting

Create a stencil using a white sheet to mark the wall holes. Mount the sign and attach the hooks.

Step 8: 🌟 Final Result & Control

Connect the power supply, and start playing with colors, effects, segments, and presets. The result is stunning and infinitely customizable!
