Introduction: Create the Perfect Children’s Party and Have Fun Yourself
Every year, a time comes when my child’s birthday is getting closer, and let’s make one thing certainly clear – I am extremely happy because of it, because my child is healthy and growing up, but at the same time, I dread the feeling of having to create yet another party and find the perfect gift. I found it easiest when I talk to my child, as it is easy to get lost in your own desires and needs, and forget about what your child truly wants and needs. Commonly, children parties have a theme, and it can be anything that is currently popular, or that you know your child enjoys – from his favorite cartoon, or book, to a favorite TV show or a play toy. Truth be told, your imagination is not the only thing stopping you, as you have to consider the current state of your wallet and plan accordingly.
Step 1: Inviting the Right People (and Children)
Let’s face it, there are parents you love and the parents you hate – and all of this is great and fun, but it is essential that your child invites whomever he or she wants, and whether you like the child’s parents is not important. Even though it is a children’s party, and most of it is designed around activities for children, there should also be a healthy number of adults, not only to keep you company, but also to help you with supervision. They are not doing this for you, but also to keep their child protected and out of the harm’s way, as I have personally seen how these parties can quickly turn ugly with some mischief done by children let loose. Furthermore, not only will your child have an opportunity to make new friends and enjoy itself, but you will have a chance to get to meet some of the parents as well – you’d be amazed how many similar problems you might have, which will give you more than enough topics to talk about.
Step 2: The Perfect Cake and Drinks
Birthday cake is probably the most important thing when it comes to a children’s party – you want to impress both children with the cake’s sweet taste, and impress the parents with your extraordinary cooking skills. Or you can simply have the cake made for you and show it off as your own. Making a cake yourself is certainly a good move, since it is an excellent way to bond with your child, and you can use whatever your child loves and incorporate it in the cake, from gummy bears to special biscuits. Furthermore, this is the surest way of knowing that every ingredient is safe for your child, and you can adjust it according to your desires. You can even reduce the amount of sugar if you think that your child can be hyperactive at times. The cake should fit a theme, so you can easily use molds and create it in a shape of a monster, a pirate or your child’s favorite toy.
Step 3: The Right Present
Another important thing that I have learned from my limited experience – never buy your child the thing it needs but the thing it wants. Those two are quite different, and usually one is practical, like shoes, or a new school bag, but trust me when I tell you that your child will be less than satisfied. So, if you want to avoid buying extra-expensive gift out of the feeling of guilt because you somehow thought socks are an excellent present – think again. Why don’t you buy your kid a comic book or a gaming console? If your child loves reading (which they rarely do), make sure to encourage that behavior and buy him or her whichever book he or she wants. For some parents that want to include themselves into the fun, here’s an idea - visit Legoland as a whole family, and have a day in a fantasy land where everything will simply be perfect. This is a perfect solution because of two simple reasons: your child will love it, and secondly, you will love it, and everyone knows that even adults can have lots of fun in an amusement park.
