Introduction: Creating a Flashcard Set in Cram.com
After setting up an account, you will be brought to the main page. Here, you can look for cards that may cover the topic you're interested in or you can create your own flashcard deck.
Today, we'll be making our own deck.
Click on the button that says "Create Flashcards".
Step 1: Describing the Deck
The first step is explaining what the deck will be used for.
You'll have four boxes to fill out:
- Set Title: The name of the deck
- Subjects: What areas of study this deck belongs to
- Access: Is it public or private
- Description: an optional area where you can explain more of the purpose of the deck
Fill these in with key words you would think of if you needed to search for this set of flashcards.
Step 2: Making a Traditional Flashcard
While there are several options for cards, here we'll go over the basic flashcard. It has a front, which is the word you will see first when looking through the cards. The back will have the answer or text you are trying to remember.
Simply click on the box and fill it in. You have options for bolding, bullet points, and underlining as well.
Step 3: Creating a Visual Flashcard
If you were studying a topic with a lot of imagery, you may include pictures instead of text on the flash card.
On the editor tool bar (located at the bottom of the textbox), you will see a small icon with a picture (where the red arrow is pointing). Click that and upload a photo. You can still add text if you would like and you can add an image to either the front or back of a flashcard.
Step 4: Creating Hints (Optional)
At the top of the flashcard creation menu you will see a button that says "Show Hint". Click on that to enable "hints", a slide you can see before having to flip over to reveal the answer. This gives Cram Flashcards an advantage over traditional flashcards.
The "Hint" acts as a third textbox. Here, enter any text that may help you remember or study whatever will be on the 'back' of the card.
Step 5: Adding a New Card
Once you have created 3 cards, you will see a prompt at the bottom. You can press the "+" to add new cards. Or, for even faster creation, you can press 'Tab' on your keyboard.
Step 6: Adding Folders
Once you have finished creating your flashcards, you will be given an option to put this deck in a folder.
For the free version of Cram, you only have 2 folder options. Think of these like regular folders on your desktop or similar to the way that tags work on social media. It works as a filter for you to find and organize cards.
It is optional and not all cards may need to be put in folders.
Step 7: Finishing Your Deck
At the end, you will see a button called 'Create Set'. This button will finish the deck, save it to your profile, and allow you to begin using it to study.
Step 8: Ready to Study
Yay! You've completed your deck of flashcards. You have 4 options with Cram now
- Flashcards - this allows you to use your cards like regular flip flashcards
- Memorize - this gives you some record keeping as you click "I got it right" or "I was wrong". At the end, the website will give you percentages of how much was correct and let you see how many cards you got wrong.
- Test - this acts as a match from the front to the back. At the end, the website will give you percentage correct, your average, and the option to test again.
- Games - These are cute games to help you memorize vocabulary.
Pick which one works best for you and have fun studying!
