Hello everyone!
I made this instructable from scrap pieces of wood and a piece of glass that I had thrown around.

We are just remodeling the house, and since we put a TV in the dining room, I decided to add a shelf to place my SNES Laptop for games or to use Plex.

I did not want to spend a lot of money so here we're gonna learn how to use wood as support for the glass to get a nice look.

Step 1: Materials and Tools

Materials:

A piece of wood. (Mine was 1 inch thick, 2 inches wide and 3 feet)
Piece of glass, from a window or a table. (Mine was broken from a table, so I just cut it to make it square)
2 brackets, the smaller the better but please, consider the weight they gonna support.

Tools:

Hacksaw
Clamps
Ruler
Drill
Hammer
Chisel or Utility Knife (I do not recomend use this to cut wood, is very dangreous but is the only thing I have)
Leveler Tool

Step 2: Messuring the Parts and Cutting the Supports

First, take measure of the width and length of your glass.

I add 4 cm in the front and the back of the wooden supports to allow cables to pass behind the glass

Then, fix the wood to a table using the clamps, and cut the pieces with the hacksaw.

Step 3: Making the Notch and Adding the Brackets

Using the edge of the glass, I mark a notch over the wooden piece.

Then, using the utility knife, I made several passes over the notch borders, on the front and the side, until y was able to remove the excess material.

Just to be sure, when i finish both cuts, I put the glass in between, and check that everything fits.

Now, we proceed to add the brackets on a 90° angle.

Step 4: Installing the Shelf

One you have all pieces ready, measure the distance between the outside edge of the wooden supports, with the glass in place. Now. I mark below the tv the same distance and use the wooden supports as a guide for the brackets holes to be fix on the wall.

Make sure everything is level with the leveler tool.

I drill the brackets holes, and screw them on the wall.

Finally, put the glass between the notches, and you're done!
