Introduction: Custom Bed Frame
Having a typical metal bed frame with wheels, I always felt that the bed was weak and wobbly. I used Sketchup to put together my idea and added dimensions to it.
Step 1: Cutting and Painting
Using my design, I bought 15 straight, clear 2x4 pine and one 4x4 pine boards and cut them to my dimensions. I then got a quart of "whoops" paint at Lowes for $2.50 and painted all but the bottom structure.
Step 2: Assembly
Using 2.5" interior wood screws (I used "zip" screws), I assembled the bed.
Step 3: Final
After assembly and putting the box spring and mattress back in place I found the bed to be very solid and comfortable. I designed it with a ledge 7.5" up from the floor to make it easy to put my feet when lacing my shoes. I'm very satisfied with the design.

Grey, about what did the material run?

Not sure. Cheap! Several2x4
4x4s for the uprights.

thanks grey for properly loading the 2x4's that actually hold of the bed. That whole bending moment is a thing. People design them so they easily warp and break. Dangerous for any kitties or puppys chilling underbed.

I agree. Not enough room for my pup under this one but I do like the strength. I tend to err on the side of more support beams than less.
