Introduction: Custom Blocks: Press Fit Parts
When I was a child, I really wanted to play with LEGO. However, I could not get LEGO.
I still don't have LEGO, but I still would like to have it and play it.
Therefore, at this time, I'm going to create custom blocks to making shapes.
Step 1: 1st Design Programing in Grasshopper
As the strategy to making press-fit blocks, I changed only the size of the holes.
I made a slider to change the tolerances of the holes.
Step 2: Check 1st Design
I printed four variations of the tolerances in holes (1, 2, 3, 4 mm)
In the first design, I found the following things.
- The bottom hole disappears. Thus it needs to change the design of the top connect parts shape and bottom hole.
- The tolerances should be under 1mm
Step 3: 2nd Design
I designed the 2nd design. I printed 5 variations of the tolerances in holes (0.95, 0.9, 0.8, 0.7 mm)
From actual printed parts, I found the tolerances of the hole should be 0.7mm
And top sides connecting parts should be the wrong equation.
Therefore I fixed the program and printed it out with the tolerances of 0.7mm.
Step 4: Confirmed the Press Fitting
I printed two of them first. Then I confirmed it is press-fitting blocks.

Step 5: Applications
Using these blocks, I can make various shapes.
I use one of the designs as a cat lock of the cabinet door under the sink.
