Introduction: Customize-Your-Own Chocolate Bar

About: I’m a self-trained cook, cooking (and blogging about it!) for myself and my husband in our condo. Cue the cozy domesticity!

I went shopping last weekend and stopped by a make-your-own chocolate bar store. When I realized how easy it was to make, I couldn't believe people paid premium to do this at a store! Why not make your own for last-minute Christmas gifts? It would be a great way to involve kids, as it would help them think about the preferences of the person to whom they are gifting. Want to make some yourself? Read on!

Step 1: Gather Your Ingredients

Make-Your-Own Customized Chocolate Bar

  • Belgian chocolate wafers (white, milk, or dark chocolate)
  • assorted candy
  • a plastic container

You can buy the chocolate wafers and assorted candy at a bulk store, like I did, but some department stores carry them too. Choose the amount of wafers you want, based on the size of the plastic container that you will be using. And then gets lots of candy to top it with!

Step 2: Melt, Pour, and Sprinkle

Melt the wafers in a mug in the microwave in 15 second bursts, stirring it each time you check it.

When it is melted, pour it into your plastic container. (You don’t need a fancy chocolate mold — I used a mini Ikea food storage container. As long as it’s plastic, it’s all good!)

Give the container a good tap on the counter to get any air bubbles out.

Sprinkle the candies on top.

Place in fridge until chocolate is set.

Step 3: Wrap and Gift!

When chocolate is set, turn container upside down and de-mold.

Wrap in a cellophane bag and keep in a cool place until eaten.

I think these really would be great for kids to make for Christmas gifts. Or even for a kids birthday party! For other chocolate/candy combos, check here.

Enjoy!
