Introduction: Chromebook Charging Station (8-bay)
Charging a bunch of Chromebooks was a messy affair with the wires and it was hard to get to a specific Chromebook when they are all stacked on top of each other.
Having a spare shelf around, I made an 8-bay Chromebook Charging Station.
Sorry, there are no images for the early steps. This Instructable is an after thought.
Materials:
- Small bookcase (mine is an Ikea BILLY)
- Electrical extension cord
- Bookends (smooth enamelled, about 19cm x 13cm)
- Wire clips (to hold wires in place)
- Screws (small ones for wood)
- Tape
- Non-slip mat
Tools:
- Drill and drill bit for the screw
- Saw for metal parts
Step 1: Prepare the Bookends
Drill two holes into the bookends and saw away the flap
Make sure you gotten a bookend that is metal and enamelled. This would prevent any scratches onto your Chromebooks
Step 2: Measure the Bays for Your Chromebooks
Measure where each bookend will be screwed in. For my 8-bay shelf, each bay is 4.5cm wide.
Step 3: Screw in the Bookends
Screw in the bookends. I placed a tape over the screws to have a smooth surface for Chromebooks to slide over it.
I then added a non-slip mat on top that, with holes cut to fit the spacing between the bays. See next step for a photo example.
Step 4: Add the Wire Clips and Wire-up
I added the wire clips onto the bookends. I used 3 wire clips for each bay.
After that it is time to wire up your shelf. I numbered each wire and the adapter, to help with any troubleshooting in the future.
Step 5: Enjoy Your New Charging Station
Put in all your Chromebooks and enjoy a new organised way of charging..!

You are welcome, I hope it worked as well as it did for me.
I ended up utilising the self space above too, so each bookcase can hold 16 Chromebooks/laptops. The Ikea BILLY shelves were giving way a little from the weight of the Chromebooks, hence I had to nail the shelves fixed to give it support.
After this first one project, I made another 3 more for our use....!

Why do you have 8 chromebooks?

I have a bunch of kids who is part of a play/study group. They use the Chromebooks for study and also some play time. It is an easy laptop to configure and clean up (software wise and physically too) when there are issues.
