Introduction: DIY Air Conditioning Almost Free
This instructable will show you how to make a air conditioning unit for a really low price i have used these a lot over the years so i thought i would show you how to make one :D it is an ice cream tub with a cpu or case fan of a computer. how it works is a fan blows over a cold icepack and it cools down the air then it is pushed out a small hole and it is really cold
Step 1: You Will Need
>An ice cream tub
>Sellotape
>Fan
>Scissors
>Wire
>12v Power supply
>Ice packs
Step 2: Starting Off
take your ice creem tub and cut a hole in it the size of your fan
Step 3: Sticking or Glueing
i used selotape becuse i dont want to make a big mess with my epoxy also i wanted to use it today
Step 4: Cutting the Outlet Hole
Cut the tub with ordinary kitchen Scissors make sure that you don't cut it too big tho just adjust it as you go along make it biger or smaler to make it smaller use tape
Step 5: Wiring Up
This is the most simple wiring up you could do. what you do is wind the wire around a wire to extend the length of it and then use tape to stop short outs
Step 6: Puting Ice Packs in It
im sure you know how to do this but ok
Step 7: Put the Lid On
you know how to do this
Step 8: Connect to a 12v Power Source
you can use your pc if you want or a car batt to it be createive

Rock on man!!! I have a chassis fan for a computer and its connectors are cut off. I've been wanting to find a use for it, but you beat me to it. Thanks!! Also, is there a way to make the fan detachable so that you could just fill the bucket up a little and freeze it?

Easy, just add a quick 2 conductor disconnect like this: http://www.allelectronics.com/make-a-store/item/CON-240/2-CONDUCTOR-LOCKING-CONNECTORS-W/-LEADS/-/1.html
You could also easily add a SPST switch so you have the option of shutting the fan off whenever you want.

Also, a easy modification for better cooling would be to suspend the ice-pack locating it the middle of your container. Create a small intake opening to draw ambient air in ABOVE the ice pack then creating the exhaust opening BELOW the ice pack. Cold air sinks.

do you now where you found that fan at and do you now the price?

Yeah, but what if the air is really hot? You'll just be blowing hot air.
