DIY Backyard Bonfire Starter
Intro: DIY Backyard Bonfire Starter
I (Steph) have been making these fire starters for a few years now because they work so well in my backyard fire pit. They use simple materials that I would normally trash or recycle, so this is a great way to "use what you have" and recycle materials in a new way!
STEP 1: Watch the Video
STEP 2: Gather Materials
- Cardboard egg carton (Trader Joes)
- Dryer Lint (keep a jar by your dryer to collect lint)
- Floss
- Old candles or wax
- Heat gun
STEP 3: Cut the Top and Side Off of a Cardboard Egg Carton
STEP 4: Fill With Lint From Your Dryer
STEP 5: Cut Each Egg Compartment Apart
STEP 6: Fold in Sides and Wrap Floss Around the Cardboard
STEP 7: Melt Wax and Dip Firestarters
Find an old candle you have around the house or buy some wax. Melt it using a double boiler or use a heat gun. Make sure you melt it in a container that is made for heat.
Once melted, dip each firestarter in the wax to completely coat the cardboard.
STEP 8: Let Dry, Start Your Fire!
We love this DIY because you can use materials from around your house that you would normally trash. It's great to make a bunch of these so you always have them on hand for your next bonfire!

I use dry pine needles, no toil, no cost, and a fresh smell.
