With sweets on the mind, we wanted to make homemade, caramel covered apples with a Sphero twist to share with you ballers. We knew that caramel apples were good, but we wanted something truly delectable. As we waited for our gooey caramel to melt we wondered, "How can we make these great?" Suddenly, we were inspired by the Show Us Your Balls video contest. "Let's add bacon!" And bacon and caramel covered apples were born. Find out how to make these salty-sweet treats for the holidays by following our step-by-step Instructable.

Step 1: Supplies

To make these pigs-in-a-caramel blanket, gather the following supplies:

1. Wax paper
2. Powdered sugar
3. Popsicle sticks
4. Green apples
5. Caramel
6. Canadian bacon

Step 2: Beginning Preparations

With your counter tops cleared and your stove heated, melt your caramel in a double boiler. If you don't have one handy, make your very own with a heat proof bowl and a pot filled with water. While your caramel is melting, spread a sheet of wax paper out and sprinkle powdered sugar over the top of it. This will keep your caramel apples from sticking to the paper and will add a bit more sweetness to your treat. Prepare your apples by sticking a Popsicle stick in each fruit for easy holding.

Step 3: Covering Your Apples

For easy and smooth caramel application, hold your apple in one hand and use a spoon to pour caramel over the apple with the other, all while twisting the fruit for complete coverage. To add a little oink to your treat, microwave two strips of Canadian bacon. Cook them long enough so they are cooked, but still malleable as well.

Step 4: Adding the Bacon

Now that you have a mighty good caramel covered apple, it is time to add that twist that will make it great. With your bacon prepared, wrap each strip around your apple and pin it in place with a toothpick. To solidify the Canadian bacon, add some more caramel so those piggies can't bail. In case bacon isn't your thing, we've got some other decoration ideas that might stun your snackers. Use edible glitter or white sugar pearls to create an image of your favorite robot! Ours happens to be Sphero. Who could have guessed?
