Introduction: DIY Batman Pen Holder | Laser Cut, Wood, Desk Accessory

About: This is Alex from NEJE. Love to make some crafts with it and share the crafts I made.

This is a fun and stylish DIY project to create a Batman-themed pen holder using laser cutting technology. Perfect for fans of the Dark Knight, this pen holder is made from plywood, painted, and assembled to add a unique touch to your desk. With a 20W NEJE Laser Cutter and some basic supplies, you can craft this functional and decorative piece.

Supplies

MATERIALS:

  1. 3mm thickness plywood * 2 (45*45cm)
  2. Wood Glue
  3. Acrylic Paint (Black and white)

EQUIPMENT:

  1. 20W NEJE Laser Cutter
  2. Software: Lightburn
  3. Paintbrush or acrylic markers
  4. Sandpaper (optional, for smoothing edges)

Step 1: Upload the File

Upload the design file to Lightburn. Framing the size to fit your 45*45cm plywood sheets and verify that the design fits within the laser cutter’s working area. The file is suitable for 3mm thickness, if you want thicker, please adjust your file

Step 2: Laser Cutting

Place the 3mm plywood sheet securely in the cutting area. You can divide the cutting into two sessions if needed, as this design require multiple layers (e.g., 3 layers per plywood sheet).

Configure Lightburn settings:

  1. Cutting Speed: 450mm/min, Power: 90%, Air Assist: On.
  2. Engraving Speed: 5000mm/min, Power: 70%, Line

After cutting, gently remove the pieces and sand any rough edges if necessary.

Step 3: Painting

Paint the cut pieces to bring the Batman theme to life:

  1. Black: Paint the base and inner walls black to mimic Batman’s iconic color scheme.(Except for the eyes, the rest of the parts are painted black. )
  2. White: Use Paintbrush or acrylic marker for the Batman's eyes to replicate the classic Batman emblem.

Allow the paint to dry completely. Apply a clear varnish for a polished finish and added durability (optional).

Step 4: Assembling

Assemble the pen holder layer by layer. Start with the base, using wood glue to glue the layers of the walls together. Make sure stack and glue layers, ensuring alignment of any interlocking slots, then attach front part to the outer layers.

Press firmly and let the glue dry for at least 1-2 hours, or as per the wood glue instructions.

Step 5: Enjoy Your Work

Once assembled, your Batman pen holder is ready to organize pens, pencils, or other desk items while showcasing your fandom!
