DIY Calendula Salve

Introduction: DIY Calendula Salve

About: Currently a working professional and working on my Masters in Learning Technologies. Created my first instructable as part of an assignment and I can't wait to create more!

The calendula flower, which is part of the marigold family, is known for its medicinal and skin soothing properties. I started to make this salve about a year ago to help with my VERY dry and sometimes painful skin issues and it has worked really well. This calendula flower combined with the lavender essential oil (which also has skin soothing properties) and olive oil makes for a great all natural concoction to help your skin. To learn more about the calendula flower you can visit:

Use this recipe to make your own skin soothing salve.

Ingredients List

1/4c calendula flowers (you can buy them from Amazon here: )

1/2c olive oil

1/8c beeswax pellets

2 oz or 4 oz glass jars (I used 2 oz jars as I was giving mine away as gifts)

Step 1: Steeping

Combine the calendula flowers and the olive and let steep on a windowsill for 2 weeks or more. The longer the better.

Step 2: Add Beeswax and Essential Oils

Drain olive oil then put it over a double boiler add the beeswax pellets. Once melted, take off heat and let cool. Once cooled, add 40 drops lavender.

Step 3: Pour in to Containers

Pour into containers. I tripled it and it made 10 of these.

Interesting. Are there any other plants that you might substitute?

Hmmm. I have not used any other plants. I am sure you could use another plant that has skin soothing properties. I assume that you could steep some lavender or helichrysum flowers as well. I use both as an essential oil for my skin serums so I don't see why steeping the flowers and making a salve out of them wouldn't work. Thank you for your comment!
