Introduction: DIY Candle

Honestly who doesn't love candles! I mean come on, but candles can get pretty expensive and once candles are burned they look well. . . Undecorative. . . But here is a easy solution. . . LEARN HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN CANDLES!!!!

Step 1: Supplies

For this you will need:
Candles you can get them from thrift stores or use your own or Walmart or just anywhere.
A double boiler or a chocolate melter (I'll explain in a bit.)
Hot glue gun
Wicks (They can be recycled from the candles.)
Penny or pop tab of needed
And GLASS cups or what ever you want the candle in
Another option is cardboard (Explained later.)

Step 2: Basics

Ok so basically all we are doing is melting one or more candles down and pouring the wax into a new container. . . Not that hard right? Well here is the basics to this. NEVER EVER EVER pour the hot wax in or on plastic. . . Why? Well it will melt the plastic.
A double boiler is needed to melt them which is a simple diy find a pan or pot and fill it about half way with water and sit that on the stove next get a smaller pot that fits inside the one with water and gently sit your candle(s) in remember not to go to crazy.
To change the color of your melted wax it is as simple as tossing in some white to lighten it or red to blue to make purple and so on. DO NOT USE FOOD COLORING wax is basically like oil and water it will not mix. Crayons on the other hand will work as a dyeing substitute.

Step 3: First

Okay so first get the double boiler ready, after the wax melts get a fork and fish the wick out(that string) 99% of the time there is a metal plate attached to the bottom if not this is where a penny or soda tab comes in because that is used to hold the wick in place. Preheat your hot glue gun. Attach the wick to the penny or soda tab (if needed.) hot glue it to the bottom middle of the glass container trim wick so it is about a half inch taller than where the wax will be.
This is where the cardboard comes in you can shape let's say a heart and hot glue it to a card board base and instead of hot glueing the wick in place pour enough wax to fill the bottom and set the wick in that so after the candle cools it will pop right out :)

Step 4: Melted

So then you can pour the wax but be extremely careful ITS HOT!
Tip it is easy to do different color layers but before adding a new layer let the first set and cool till it's only mildly warm.
And never pour wax down the drain it goes in the trash! And never pout every last drop the dirt from any old wax will always be the last few drops I just pour that onto a folded paper napkin.
For me I found a chocolate melter at goodwill for like $3 and I am always making candles but I wouldn't recommend melting chocolate in one that's melted candles. . .

Step 5: Cool

Let it cool depending on the size and wax type it could take 30 minutes to over night to set once set you will notice a dip simple warm up a small amount of wax and just fill in the dip!
