Intro: DIY Cardboard Cat Scratcher

Hi! Welcome to my first instructable! Today I will be showing you how to make a cardboard scratching board. I am getting a young cat in less than a week and I had some extra time on my hands. It is very easy and inexpensive, so if your cat tears it up it won't be a big deal.

I have attached a link to a selection of similar products:

STEP 1: Gather Supplies

You will need: tape, scissors, and cardboard (I used a tri-board but anything would work).

STEP 2: Cut Strips

I cut my strips approximately 2 inches wide, this will determine how tall your scratcher is. It doesn't matter if the cardboard is printed on. The longer your strips the less you need to use.

STEP 3: Roll!!!

Now you can start rolling your first strip. Do it as tightly as possible. when you reach the end tape it down as shown in the picture.

STEP 4: Add More Strips

To add your next strip put tape on the beginning of the second strip and place it right next to the end of the first strip. Repeat.

STEP 5: Finish

Keep going until you are satisfied with your scratcher's size. Mine was 7 inches in diameter, but you could go bigger or smaller based on the size of your cat. When it is finished just tape down the edge. You can decorate it if you want or add a sprinkle of catnip. I hope you make this for your fuzzy feline friend!

Nice and simple! I may have to give this a go since my cats shredded the more complicated scratcher I bought them :)
