Introduction: DIY Center Finder Jig

About: My name is Kayvan and I have a YouTube channel named Kayvan Crafted. on this channel, I am going to cover my projects which mostly are crafting, making, woodworking, fabrication, repairs, maintenance, welding,…

Since there is a ton of tutorial on how to build a center finder jig I tried to make a simple and practical version of this useful tool.

Step 1:

I started by cutting a square bar of wood then marked the three holes on it and started drilling. one thing here about the position of the holes I wanted to mention is cosmetic aside there are only two things you should keep in mind while marking the holes position and drilling them. The center hole should be exactly in the middle of the other two holes and each hole should be completely square with the wooden block.

Step 2: The Bolts

Now a lot of similar jigs are using ball bearings for the smooth operation of the jig, but instead, here I decided to go for the polished leg which actually was even smoother than the ball bearings not to mention the less complexity and cost of the parts.

So I started by cutting the partial threaded bolts, then mounted them on the drill press and started sanding from 100 grit to 2000 grit. You see the comparison of the bolt body before and after the polishing in the photos.

Step 3:

With the help of a hammer, I forced two nuts into the holes and then mounted bolts into them. Then inserted a pencil in the middle hole and it is ready.

Step 4: In Action

So I tried our center finder jig on a piece of wood and it does the job fine. I would suggest watching the video on top of this page to see this little tool in action.
