Introduction: DIY Christmas Truck

About: Hi my name is David, I like to make things out of Wood, also like to take things apart and fixed them.

Well it's about time for Christmas, and I wanted to make another Christmas project. So I designed this Truck hauling a Christmas tree. It is a easy project, that can be done with limited tools. I use a Scroll saw, but could be done with a jig saw. Add a little paint, of your choice, I used Red, because of Christmas. I have included a pdf file of the pattern, incase you wanted to make this yourself. Get the kids involved, maybe they can add to the design.

I have also included the video of me making this from my YouTube channel.

Step 1: Whats Needed

What's needed:

A piece of plywood, about 24" x 18" x 3/8"

Scroll Saw or Jig Saw

Sandpaper

Red Spray Paint

Clamps

Titebond type III wood glue

Pencil and Pen

Paint brushes

Craft Paint, White, Black, Silver, Green, yellow

Hanger

Step 2: Step 1

Print out the pattern, download the PDF file, or design your own. Once pattern is printed, you will have to trim the edges and tape together, like a puzzle. I then cut my into two pieces to fit my board, to avoid a bad place in the board.

Step 3: Step 2

Now get you some Spray adhesive, as shown in the pictures. Spray a little onto the back side of the pattern, let it set for about 3 to 5 minutes, then attach it to the board. Allow another 5 minutes before going to the next step.

Step 4: Step 3

Now cut the pieces out, either using a Scroll Saw or Jig Saw.

Note for the Fenders, only cut out the outline of the fender.

Note the last picture is what you should have.

Step 5: Step 4

Once the pieces or cut out, before pulling the paper off, trace over the pattern where extra lines are, like the window, wheels and bumper areas. Bear down real good, to make indention's into the wood. Then you can peel the paper off.

Note keep your paper pieces unto you finish the project

Step 6: Step 5

Then lightly sand the pieces edges, to remove the fuzzies. Then either wipe or blow off with a air hose.

Step 7: Step 6

Spray paint the parts that you want to paint Red, or you can brush it own, if you wish. Then for the small pieces, hand paint the according to the colors on the pattern, or come up with your own color choices. Let dry according to your paint, before continuing.

Step 8: Step 7

Now take a Pencil, and trace over the lines, for the wheels, tires, bumpers, and window. Keep your paper pattern handy, incase you need to go back over the pieces.

Step 9: Step 8

Now is time to do some painting on the fenders, I started with a silver looking color for the Hub caps, and the bumpers. Then white, and black for the tires. I also painted the Christmas Tree Green.

Step 10: Step 9

Once the paint has dried, then apply a little Wood glue, and clamp the pieces onto the Truck body.

Allow the glue to dry a couple of hours, before removing the clamps. Also wipe off any excess glue before it drys.

Step 11: Step 10

Spray the piece with some Clear, that's made for outdoors. Attach hanging hardware.

Step 12: Finish

Then hang up your design and enjoy. I hope everyone enjoyed this Instructable, and if you make one yourself, please upload the picture, I would love to see what you came up with.
