Introduction: DIY Custom Gun/Book Vault

Here's a fancy instructable on how to make those fancy books that have guns in them like in the movies!

Anyway, this is a "work-in-progress" instructable. As I decide how to cut and bind the book I'll edit this instructable with those pictures/instructions.
At the completion of this instructable, you will have a seemingly harmless book that actually contains a powerful home defense weapon.

At the completion of this instructable, you will have a seemingly harmless book that actually contains a powerful home defense weapon.
Step 1: Measuring the Book and Gun
When selecting the book you're going to use, make sure to measure very carefully. The book should be wide enough to allow your gun to lay comfortably flat and be "deep" enough to allow adequate coverage of the weapon inside. Also, used book shops or your grandmothers library are a great place to look for old, thick books. Look for encyclopedias, pill manuals, etc, etc. Not a Bible! LOL
For this project I measured the width, length, and depth of both my book and my gun. In this case, an American made Hi-Point CF380.
This was, as stated earlier, to ensure plenty of room for the gun to sit flushly in the book.

Step 2: Tracing the Gun and Magazine
Lay the gun in the open book a couple of hundred pages in. For my book, I chose the 380th page ;)
My book already had wide margins around the words that gave me ample room to cut (in a latter step) without making the walls of the vault too thin.
Make sure that you have your clip in your gun if you EVER want to store the gun in this position as sometimes the clip will protrude or add on to the length of the grip as mine does.
Also, make sure the magazine has at least one round protruding from the top if you ever plan on storing the clip with rounds. This is also due to the fact that rounds may protrude from the top of the magazine.
Once you've placed the clip in the gun, lay it carefully on the thickest part of the book and trace around your weapon. DO NOT Trace ridiculously close. If you do, then in the event that you need your weapon, it will be so tightly wedged into the book that it can not be removed in an adequate amount of time.
Now remove the clip (or use a spare if you have one) and load it with a single round protruding from the top. Lay it however you see fit, on the pages parallel to the gun and trace around it. Once again, DO NOT Trace ridiculously close.
Once you have your lines drawn, you may begin cuttting!
