Introduction: DIY Faux Headboard (Under $10.00)

This is my first instructable so I have chosen a very easy design nothing but squares and straight lines.

Step 1: Materials List

1. Contact paper ( available at most hardware stores)
2. Scissors
3. Yardstick or ruler
4. Credit card or library card (for smoothing down decals.)

Step 2:

Get your dimensions by measuring the width of your bed, the height of your headboard is up to you. Once you have your dimensions clean off surfaces with soap and water.

Step 3: Prep

Get your dimensions by measuring the width of your bed, the height of your headboard is up to you. Once you have your dimensions clean off surfaces with soap and water.

Step 4: Cutting

Start with one piece of contact paper the width of your bed. Cut lengthwise into strips using the grid system on the back of the paper. I cut strips 1 2 and 3 grid squares wide.

Step 5: Design

Using your strips of contact paper layout the design of your headboard on the floor.

Step 6: Applying Headboard to the Wall.

I measured from the floor up to where I wanted the top of the headboard on either side of the bed and inserted thumb tax at top corners. I connected a string with weights on ends and to thumb tax to get top line and sidelines straight. I did the cross pieces first so I could cover up the loose ends. When applying contact paper do not stretch! Gently lay down and smooth out with credit card.

Step 7: Finishing Touches

Use some of the scraps from your strips to create squares and place large squares on corners and smaller squares at different intersections. Smooth out everything with credit card and you're done. The great thing about this project is if you don't like the results you can peel it right off with no damage done.

Step 8: Go to Bed.

Sleep.
