Introduction: DIY Ganesha

About: Imagine, you have an infinite amount of resources, support and no social constraints then " What are the things you gonna make? "

I made this design to foster children's into making by connecting it with their festival.

I am not personally interested in festivals or promoting religions practices but this idea is to slowly involve children's in learning while celebrating their festival. Whole idea of learning is to develop productive knowledge in interested folks by simple activities.

Let's begin

Before coming to paper-craft model I first build simple cardboard model with little motor attach in it.

On base to first design I created paper-craft model

I will discuss about both in my share

Step 1: Material Required:

Required Tools:

  • Computer/laptop
  • Printer for Printing

Step 2: Designing Pieces

So here I have designed all pieces in computer using 2d vector software like CorelDraw and Inkscape. I wanna to introduce computer designing and it possibilities of making with right tools. Yup this is bit high tech and That what I wanted it to be since this is part of S.T.E.A.M. education all activities I design to give interest in modern tools.

But yes! possible alternative are there to do designing using hand directly which will also give same result. Since I will not talk much about how I designed it but will provide you my design to learn from it and you can learn software and hand designing on your own later.

Step 3: Cutting Pieces Off

For Cardboard model: Once you done with designing you can take printout on a paper and use it as stencil to cut cardboard pieces.

For Paper model: It is very simple you first take color printout on A4 thick sheets and cut pieces out using scissor. Next fold and glue edges accordingly. Here I shared some images will help you while making it and that all here we done with paper model.

...next we continue with cardboard model further more...

Step 4: Assembling

for cardboard: when you done with cutting out all pieces, using glue assemble each pieces of cardboard by referring image of our final product. Here only one thing you need to take care of is going slow and wait for glue to set before to handle your model.

Step 5: Electronics

This is extra thing you can do with your cardboard model if you wanna to make it more.

I have used Geared DC motor to make back circle to rotate

This is to introduce kids with basic electronics.

Since In activity time I also suggest children to explore led, sensors and Arduino with it

Okay here we also done with cardboard model

Do try and share you creative ;)

Thankyou :)
