Introduction: DIY: Guitar Amplifier W/Vintage Gear

About: Every week two geeky people in Rochester MN spend every ounce of their freetime creating educational videos, podcasts, articles, and music. They publish it all on the internet, free to anyone in the whole univ…

We're into finding and keeping old vintage audio equipment such as tube amplifiers, field coil speakers, and anything art-deco-esque. But we were in need of a guitar amplifier, so when we came across a gutted 1936 Philco Tombstone radio case, we knew we had a project!

This series of videos shows how we combined a 1936 Philco Tombstone radio case with a 1940s field coil speaker from an old Hammond organ and 1960s Leslie Type 25 tube amplifier complete with a DIY power supply capable of providing 115VAC, 8-10 VDC, and 90VDC for the different components!

A full write-up will be in AudioXpress's September 2014 edition!

Didn't notice that it's actually a playlist till the first part ended, but unfortunatly I don't have time to watch it all :(, so I skipped to the end. The sound isn't that impressive, but I may (and I'm pretty sure it does) sound better live. However it realy is a true unique piece of art. Thumbs up!

We're still tweaking the sound a bit and have plans to exchange the current preamp for a DIY tube preamp, which should help the sound out a bit. We have some other samples of how else it can sound: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=66MyP0dzqCc
