Introduction: DIY Infinity Scarves
Turn old t-shirts (and nightgowns) into the ultimate colorful neck party for those breezy weather conditions! Here, I'm going to show you how to make this scarf in 2 different ways: painted and using an old nightgown!
Note: This project was inspired by a similar project found in the February 2016 issue of Girl's World magazine!
Step 1: Materials
To make your own infinity scarves, you will need the following items:
- old t-shirts / nightgowns
- masking tape
- sharp scissors
To make the painted scarf, you will need: fabric paint, sponge pouncer
Note: I just put the tie-dye kit and a white t-shirt as another idea for an infinity scarf. I didn't really do this one, but this is what you can also do with an old white t-shirt. I will show you how to make a swimsuit cover-up with this idea in a later post.
Step 2: Prep the T-Shirt
Tape your t-shirt to your work surface. Using a pair of sharp scissors, carefully cut a straight line below the sleeves. Then, cut another straight line below the hem. What's remaining from the shirt should be a loop of fabric.
Note: This t-shirt was my glow in the dark skull t-shirt, whose result I really didn't like, because it didn't actually glow in the dark as much. So I decided to upcycle this shirt (it's a craft shirt, after all), and make it into this breezy weather staple!
Step 3: Add Dots
Now, you can add dots to your loop of fabric. Just use your foam pouncer and a favorite color of all-surface, or fabric paint to make dots going all over the fabric. I find it best to place a piece of cardboard inside the loop so that the paint doesn't bleed through. Then, just let dry!
Step 4: Nightgown Infinity Scarf
This infinity scarf is made by simply snipping off both sides of an old t-shirt nightgown! It's then ready to wear within 1 minute!
Note: If your nightgown is too long, cut off as much as you need to meet the desired length that you want, so it doesn't look too bulky!
Step 5: Ready to Wear!
Now, you can choose your favorite way of making your own infinity scarf and enjoy!
