DIY- Make Your Own Stands for Studio Monitors Speakers

UPDATE in Step 7 !

I decided to make my own stands, because I needed the right height for my studio monitors, to enhance your position and sound, plus I did not want to spend much money.

The stands I saw in stores were too expensive for what I really need.

Step 1: Let's Get It On!!

You will need:

-16x 1-1/4" screws

The size of the base of my KRK RoKit 5 G2 is 18,5cm x 23 cm, then:

Base and Tops (I choose MDF instead Wood):

- 4 x 1,8cm x 19,5cm x 25cm MDF (just a little bit wider...)

Legs:

-4 x 1,8cm x 15cm x 20cm MDF

Others:

-1 Spray paint

- 8 felt pads (4 on each base)

Step 2: Legs in Perfect Angle..

Before you begin, you must measure the dimensions of your speaker. For the base, I recommend increase 1cm at sides and 5cm back .

Cut the MDF or apply in specialized store. MDF is very cheap. For this project spent only $ 2.50

I decided to leave the base and the top of the same size ( I think it only worth leaving base larger if the legs are higher than 12 ").

With a pencil I marked the location of the 2 legs, in angle, with a small gap (you can also try to put them together , making a 45 ° cut at the edges ), also marked the location of the 4 screws.

Step 3: Preparing the Surface

Drill the base and top before assembling.

After drilling the 4 screws , cleaned the zone with a knife or similar, to clean the remains and obtain a flat surface.

Step 4: ​Assembling

Start screwing legs to the top first, then the base. Making sure to place the legs in the lines drawn at the base or top .
Tighten the screws leaving exactly at the level of the surface or even rather a little inside, so do not touch or the floor or the speakers. Wipe clean with a cloth the dust residues.

Step 5: Painting

Sweep the can across the project, about 20 cm away uniformly. beginning and ending each coat off the side. Complete a coat over the entire project at one time, instead of working in stages. This will give you more consistent color and finish.

The initial coat should be dry within a couple of hours.

The second coat of finish quality looks great. Even you can give a third hand and get better.

Finally stick the 4 pads to the base.

Step 6: Gallery and Lessons Learned:

Here is the new look of my desk !!!... The sound is substantially enhanced...

• The MDF is like a sponge , so it is highly advisable to paint a first coat of sealer or latex for our first coat of paint . which will grant quality to our first coat of paint.

• If MDF cut has some saw marks ensure to sand the sides before painting.

• If wood is used, could use varnish to highlight the texture of the wood...

Step 7: HEY! a Couple of Years Later..... Just a Little "glossy" Update !

After selling my loved KRK rokit 5 (studio monitors) I decided to change them for something more HI-FI so I bought these Q acoustics Concept 20. And to make it more interesting, I decided to paint them with a layer of glossy black enamel (like the glossy white of The speakers).

I think they look great, I love them !! I share it with you. Cheers!
