Intro: DIY Mini (And Not So Mini) Pumpkins

Hey everyone! Kind of early for a fall DIY, but I wanted to get this posted early enough so people would have enough time to do it. I know this has already been done a few times, but I put my own spin on it and decided to do miniature pumpkins. :) You can also do two toned ones-you just need 3 solid colored pieces and 3 tie dyed or a different solid color. I added the two toned one to show they can be done different ways. Also if you flip the material around so it stretches vertically instead of horizontally, you can get taller pumpkins.

Edited July 2017 to add a bigger pumpkin and a bigger template. The bigger ones are made from fleece and some sort of lightweight hoodie I had lying around.

STEP 1: Grab Your Materials

Here's what you need to make this DIY:

-Air dry clay

-Paint and or nail polish

-Template

-Stuffing

-Needle and thread

-Scissors

-Pen

-Fabric markers

-Tacky glue

-Leaf template

-Pins

-Fabric glue

-Clear nail polish

STEP 2: Grab Your Fabric

Grab your fabric, your template, and your pen and trace around the template onto your fabric. I used old shirts for this tutorial but you can use any fabric you like. Old clothes and jeans would also work well for this project. :) Just make your template bigger if you use something other than old T-shirts. ;) Each pumpkin takes 6 pieces.

STEP 3: Sew, What's Up?

Haha. Sorry, bad pun.

Sew your pieces together. You should have two groups of 3 when you've finished sewing them together.

STEP 4: Place Is Important

Place your two halves together and sew all around them, making sure to leave a little spot open so you can turn it right side out.

STEP 5: Turn, Turn, Turn

Turn your pumpkin right side out and stuff it.

STEP 6: Sew It Up

Sew the opening shut, making sure there's a hole at the top of your pumpkin. Now take the thread, wrap it around the pumpkin, and line it up with the seam. Come up through the bottom with your needle and thread and out the top. Pull it tightly. Repeat until all the segments have been done.

STEP 7: It's Leaf Time!

Grab your leaf template, your pen, and a piece of material. Trace around your template, and cut it out.

STEP 8: Cut It Out

Now cut your leaf out and glue it on the pumpkin with your fabric glue. Make sure to cover up the stitching where you closed the stuffing hole up. If your leaf is a different color, go ahead and add the veins with your fabric marker.

STEP 9: Stems Ahoy!

Whoops, sorry. Another bad pun. Hehe. Grab your air dry clay and make a stem-or several, depending on how many pumpkins you're making. Let the stems dry.

STEP 10: Paint

Grab your paint or nail polish and paint your stem, then let dry.

STEP 11: Finishing Up

Glue the stem on top of the pumpkin and let it dry. Add veins to your leaf-or leaves- and enjoy!
