Introduction: DIY Motion Detection SMS Alarm System

About: Awesome Electronics Tutorials, Projects and How To´s

In this project I will combine a cheap PIR motion sensor with a TC35 GSM module to build an alarm system which sends you an "INTRUDER ALERT" SMS whenever somebody tries to steal your stuff. Let's get started!

Step 1: Watch the Video !

This video gives you all basic information you need to get this build right. But I will give you some additional advice in the next steps.

Step 2: Order Your Parts !

Here is the parts list with example sellers (affiliate links):

Step 3: Build the System !

Here you can find the schematic which you should always follow during your hardware build ! If you do so then everything will work out.

Step 4: Upload the Code !

Here you can download the sketch for the arduino mini. Make sure to download the timer library before trying to upload the code.

Timer library: https://github.com/JChristensen/Timer

Step 5: Success !

You did it ! Now you can enjoy more safety with your new alarm system.

Hello,Great project but #1 in an alarm situation fire siren first then send SMS#2 set system to run off a recharagible battery only thing the power supply does is recharge the battery,#3locate siren in living area as far away from main box as you can .#4 locate sensor as far away from control box as possible and #5 hide any and all control box and switches...if someone comes make then waste time looking for system parts and also have gsm unit call 3 or more numbers and hope 1 of them will call police...my first home had an alarm that called police plus members of my family well my family members waited untill later that night to call us to inform us the alarm went off about 6 hours later lucky the police got there in time to catch the person loading our TV's,guns and other valuables into his truck. The person told the police he was moving,I got there and he told police he rented a room from us and the stuff was his,our neighbor came over and verified he did not live with us and the police took him away ,we got our stuff back 1 day later...the TV's broken and the insurance folks replaced it all.

    Hi,

Maybe a bit late, but I was wondering if it is also possible for the system to work without the SMS part. So in other words just have an alarm without the GSM module?

Of course it would. If you want the "smarts" i.e. the delay, you can keep the arduino, but you can make it work just with a transistor and a relay on the output of the PIR module

Fow such purposes I use cheap mobile phone with fast dial function. For example, lasting press (above one sec) to button 1 will cause voice mail call. You only need to solder two wires to button contacts and set up your number such as voice mail

    hello, I javasichiro of Indonesia
I want to consult, for FTDI component, Pro Mini whether it can be replaced with the Arduino Uno / Arduino Nano (though brief) and GMS TC35 module for me to replace it with a GSM module Mini Sim900a V4.0?

How do you activate the GSM with the cell carrier? We use M2M modems (verizon) at work but no one knows how to activate them, they want to use a hotspot plan at 60.00 a month.

just an idea: instead of spending the money on a gsm module you could use a RPI/Ethernet shield and instead of sending a SMS, send a email. then using ifttt you could automatically send the text.

Go to a hardware store and ask for an ip66 junction box with rubber grommets
