Introduction: DIY Pallet Planter Boxes

About: I enjoy creating unique things in my small workshop and also videos of the projects for my YouTube channel.

Here's my easy DIY pallet planter boxes. Only three materials needed! Pallet timber, a sheet of corrugated iron and some pvc piping. For a full description, or if you need any more tips and pointers on the build, feel free to check out the video I made of the build process. All the best!

Step 1:

Select a pallet with some nice slats, them mark and cut out the pieces reqired for the end of the garden bed. I've gone with x4 at 470mm (18.504in) They need to be able to completely cover the curved piece of corrugated iron.

Step 2:

Remove any nails, and then take apart the rest of the centre pieces as we will need 4x at 600mm (23.622in) and x2 at 390mm (15.354in)

Step 3:

Cut out all the lengths needed, and the scew together. See pictures on where each piece goes.

Step 4:

Before we connect the two ends, treat the timber with some water proof sealant. I've used a marine grade varnish.

Step 5:

Now its time to connect the two together! The sheet I've used one at about 1400mm (55.118in) You can go with one slightly longewr or shorter but be careful on not over spanning or you may have the sheet bend or even collaps over time.

Step 6:

For safety against the sharp edge, make a centre line down a piece of PVC pipe, and cut a slit with a grinder. This will allow you to slip it over the edge as a capping.

Step 7:

Drill a couple of drainage holes to avoid water logging. And as an optional extra you can also attach some geo fabric or an old rag to help seal the ends from the dirt coming out through the cracks, but still allowing water to exit if needed.

Step 8:

Now time to fill them up. I've gone with a mixter of potting materials but you can fill with whatever soil you want for you garden.

Step 9:

I've also made a multi leveled bed, which works quite well. It fits nicely down the side of our house and around the window.

Step 10:

And there we have it! It's always nice to have your own garden and gather your first harvest of vegetables.
