About: Freelance social media manager and content creator who loves all things nerdy!

If you're looking to live like you would at Hogwarts, bring the magic of Quidditch to life at your Harry Potter party. Watch your wizarding guests whiz around to hunt for the elusive Golden Snitch as they work on getting their Quaffle through these magically quick and easy DIY golden hoops.

Step 1: Materials Needed:

  • Hula Hoop
  • 3/4-inch PVC Pipe
  • 3/4-inch PVC “T” with 1/2-inch “arms”
  • Spray Primer
  • Gold Spray Paint
  • PVC Cutters or Hand Saw

Step 2: Cut the Hula Hoop

Cut the hula hoop at the joint (usually found underneath the label). Use either PVC cutters or a hand saw.

NOTE: Make sure you complete this step over flooring that can get wet. Some hula hoops are filled with water.

Step 3: Connect the Hula Hoop to PVC "T"

Insert hula hoop ends into the “arms” of the PVC “T”.

TIP: Wrap gold duct tape around ends to make the fit tighter if needed.

Step 4: Assemble the Goal

Cut PVC pipe to the desired length and stick into the ground. A rubber mallet can be helpful here.

TIP: To make it easier on ourselves, we spray painted our hoops once they were assembled and standing in place. To protect the grass from overspray we laid out a plastic grocery sack on the grass before sticking the PVC into the ground. Weight the sack with rocks or bricks if needed.

Step 5: Prime the Hoop

Spray paint hoop and pipe with primer.

Step 6: Paint the Hoop

Once the primer is dry, cover with gold spray paint.

Step 7: Start Playing

Gather the teams and play for the Quidditch Cup. There are plenty of “rule” resources on the internet. Use whichever set best fits your party needs.
