Introduction: DIY Rainbow 3D Origami Pencil Holder
Hello, in this tutorial I will teach you how to build a beautiful origami rainbow pencil holder, this pencil holder can be used to organize your desk implements and give freshness to your workspace.
Step 1: Materials
- Colored paper: red, orange, yellow, green, blue and lilac.
- Scalpel
- Scissors
- Compass
- Pen
- Foamy
- Ruler
Step 2: Fold the Paper
Take a sheet on the longest side and bend 8 equal pieces, then take the sheet on the shortest side and divide it into 4 equal pieces as shown in the video.
Step 3: Cut the Sheet (1)
We take the 6 sheets of each color and cut with the scalpel through the guide lines along the shortest side of the sheet of paper.
Step 4: Cut the Sheet (2)
After cutting the 8 short pieces of each sheet of paper, with scissors cut each of the strips along the guide line.
Step 5: Creation of Origami Pieces
The size of the pieces is 3.7 cm wide by 5.5 cm long, fold the paper in half the longer side and then fold it back on the shorter side, then open and lift the lower ends as if we were making a paper plane, then turn the paper and then bend the tips towards the inside, finally the remainder we fold down and fold in half by the part that is closed as shown in the video.
Make 68 pieces of each color.
Step 6: Assembly of Parts for the Pencil Holder
We take one piece as a base and insert the other piece of the same tone above the first, then take the piece of the next color and insert it below and so consecutively interspersed.
Make the intercalation of each color four times, for example, you start with the yellow, orange, red, purple and blue pieces and finish with the green one.
Perform this combination 3 more times in order to close the base.
To make the body of the pencil holder they are assembled diagonally to the respective color.
In the following way, for example, the yellow piece has two small wings, place the other yellow piece in a yellow wing and the other pocket of the second yellow piece in the orange wing, as shown in the videos.
Step 7: Details
Once we have all the pieces assembled, we round up all the pieces with the end of a closed pen to embellish the pencil holder.
Step 8: Pencil Holder Base
Measure the diameter of the base, in this case 6 cm, and with the compass we make a circle a little smaller to this measure, then it is cut out and stuck with glue.

What is the size of the paper? The folded pieces don’t look like squares. A4?

Wow! This is an impressive technique! I was surprised to see it come together without any adhesive, except for the base at the bottom. Thanks for sharing!
