Introduction: DIY Scarecrow for Halloween
Hiya guys, I know it's been a very long time since I've been on here, I had a lot of troubles maintaining my rhythm whilst maintaining my school work (hence I stopped after the Christmas holiday). But I am back now with something I have been working on for a while with my friend - DIY Halloween costumes using easy household products.
For example - In this Halloween project we have done a scarecrow using only regular makeup (eyeliner, eye shadow, blusher etc.) and everyday clothes.
We came up with this idea when fussing and complaining over what to be for a Halloween party without spending too much money on costume supplies, professional makeup, etc. It then hit me, that we don't need to spend money to make an easy effective costume, we can do it ourselves with stuff we already have.
So I present to you, DIY scarecrow for Halloween.
Step 1: Equipment (makeup and Brushes)
For this instructable you will need some very simple equipment in order to make an effective scarecrow, that is both delightful and scary!
EQUIPMENT:
- Makeup brushes (blusher brush, eye shadow brush and eyeliner brush)
- Eyeshadow (any variation of dark colours and skin colours - I have used black, nude and purple)
- Blusher (bright pink)
- Eyeliner (black and brown, liquid or pencil - whatever works best for you)
- Mascara (black)
- Glitter (optional)
- A willing face!
Step 2: Nose
- First of all you're going to need your black eyeliner for the nose.
- As shown in the picture, draw a rounded triangle shape on the nose going close to the bottom area on the nose.
- Now shade in the centre of the nose with pink blusher (at first it may not be very visible, however it brightens when darkening the edge), I used the eyeshadow brush because it was smaller and easier to angle.
- After that draw similar length lines around the edge of the previously drawn triangle, to give a stitch like effect.
- Next, using the black eyeshadow with the eyeshadow brush, shade round the outside edges of the nose and stitch marks. Don't use too much eyeshadow because it could ruin the effect.
Step 3: Mouth and Cheeks
- Using the black eyeliner, draw a line from each side of the mouth that curves up slightly. At this point you could draw around the lips with the eyeliner, I didn't do this because it would make the mouth overall clearer.
- Now still using the black eyeliner, draw vertical lines down along the previously drawn line. I would say do them slightly out of line and wonky to show they aren't perfect.
- Next, do circles on the end of the horizontal lines, like shown above.
- Now for the cheeks you need the blusher and glitter. First of all use your blusher and blusher brush, cover the brush (so you can create very rosy cheeks) and use circular movements on the cheekbone. when you are satisfied with the overall rosyness, add glitter where you have used your blusher.
Step 4: Eyes
- First, using the black eyeliner draw around the eyes and make sure it's really thick to make the eyes stand out more.
- Then make this eyeliner smudged to give a smokey effect.
- After that, cover the eyelid with black eyeshadow of a similar colour to the eyeliner.
Step 5: Clothes and Finish
To finish off your fantastic scarecrow makeup and costume you will need a checked/tartan shirt and a straw hat for a minimum part of your costume. We only had these items present with us at the times, however if you want to add a little extra to your costume you could wear ripped jeans or maybe use some hay to stuff down the shirt sleeves and out the bottom for the pants.
With this costume there are many things you can do to be more opening with it, you could even build a wooden pole to yourself even more like a scarecrow, you have endless opportunities.
For the hair we did very lose and messy bunches because it made it seem a little more ragged, more like a farm girl maybe. However you can do whatever you feel with the hair you could, for example, back comb the hair so it is more poofy and messy.
Once you have finished you should look like an awesome scarecrow ready for trick or treating, a fun party and much, much more.
