Introduction: DIY Solar Powered USB Mobile Charger
Hello and welcome to my another instructable in this i will show you how to make a Solar Powered USB Mobile Charger .it is very simple and easy.
What is a solar Panel ?
Solar panel refers to a panel designed to absorb the sun's rays as a source of energy for generating electricity or heating.
A PV module is a packaged, connected assembly of typically 6×10 solar cells. Solar PV panels constitute the solar array of a photovoltaic system that generates and supplies solar electricity in commercial and residential applications. Each module is rated by its DC output power under standard test conditions, and typically ranges from 100 to 320 watts. The efficiency of a module determines the area of a module given the same rated output – an 8% efficient 230 watt module will have twice the area of a 16% efficient 230 watt module. There are a few solar panels available that are exceeding 19% efficiency. A single solar module can produce only a limited amount of power; most installations contain multiple modules. A photovoltaic system typically includes a panel or an array of solar modules, an inverter, and sometimes a battery and/or solar tracker and interconnection wiring.
The price of solar power, together with batteries for storage, has continued to fall so that in many countries it is cheaper than ordinary fossil fuel electricity from the grid (there is "grid parity"). For example in 2015, an average home in Europe or the US could use around 3,000 kilowatt-hour (kWh) in electricity each year.
Reason of making this:
In Our country Pakistan there is very hot So i think i should make a solar powered project .After two days i have the idea of making it so i make it :D .
Step 1: Parts
1:1X 12 v Solar panel
2:1X tape
3:1X 5v Voltage converter (can be found in a mobile charger)
4: USB PLUG
Step 2:
Add wires to your Solar Panel.
Step 3:
Connect the USB plug wires to the voltage converter in the sequence:
USB plug + to Volt coverter V+
USB plug - to Volt coverter V-
Step 4:
Connect the solar panel wires to Volt coverter =
Solar Panel + to Volt converter AC 1
Solar Panel - to Volt converter AC 2
Step 5:
Tape up the wire ends so they do not touch each other :)
Step 6:
Put all the stuff on solar panel with glue or tape.(i use glue)
Step 7:

i also used the same . i think your transformer is faulty :

Hi
But the transformers doesnt work with dc power from the solar panel

Hello can you tell me what kind of transformers you are using?

A much easier and more efficient way to do this would be to use a 12 volt car USB adapter. In Canada they are $2.50 at dollarama. All you gotta do is connect the + from the solar panel to the center pin and the negative to the prongs on the side. Or wire the panel up to a 12 volt power adapter and plug it in.

how did you prep the USB module?

you can improve the efficiency by connecting the panel AFTER the bridge rectifier.
You already have DC and don't need the rectifier. It creates unnecessary voltage drop of 2 x around 0.7V.
that's a wattage loss of around 1.4V x Amperage of the panel.

I forgot: connect the panel to the big capacitor near the 4 diodes. that's the primary smoothing capacitor. the negative terminal is normally marked on the capacitor.
