Introduction: DIY Stitch Wall Lamp | Laser Cut, Decorative Lighting

About: This is Alex from NEJE. Love to make some crafts with it and share the crafts I made.

In this instructable, I want to share with you a fun Stitch-themed wall lamp inspired by the beloved Disney character. You guys can create this adorable multi-layered wall decoration using laser-cut plywood and LED backlighting. This DIY project blends whimsy and creativity to produce a playful, glowing accent perfect for kids' rooms, nurseries, or any Disney fan's space.

With a laser cutter, some paint, and simple assembly, you can craft a unique wall lamp featuring Stitch that adds charm and soft illumination when mounted on your wall.

Supplies

MATERIALS:

  1. 3mm thickness plywood * 2 (50*45cm)
  2. Wood Glue
  3. Acrylic Paint (blue for Stitch's body, black for outlines, and other colors for details)
  4. LED Strip Lights (battery-powered or USB-powered, cool blue or white recommended for a cosmic vibe)
  5. Sandpaper (optional, for smoothing edges)
  6. Wall Mounting Hardware (double-sided tape, hooks, or screws for secure attachment)

EQUIPMENT:

  1. 20W NEJE Laser Cutter
  2. Software: Lightburn

Step 1: Upload the File

This design captures Stitch in a dynamic pose with layered elements for depth. It requires several layers. If you want to cut it all at once, you'll need a machine with at least a 500*450mm work area. I've set the thickness to 3mm, but feel free to scale it up or down in the software to fit your space.

Download or create a Stitch vector file (SVG or DXF format) with multiple layers for shadowing effects.

Step 2: Laser Cutting

Position the 3mm thick plywood in the laser cutter and import the design file into Lightburn. Align the file within the work area. The project includes intricate details like Stitch's fur texture and antennae, so you may need to cut in batches if your machine is smaller. For larger setups, complete it in one go.

Laser Settings:

  1. Cutting: Speed:450mm/min Power: 90% Air Assist: On
  2. Engraving(line):Speed 5000mm/min, Power: 70%power, Air Assist: Off

Step 3: Painting and Assembling

Once cut, gently sand any rough edges on the plywood pieces for a polished look. Paint the layers prior to assembly to avoid smudges. Use acrylic paints to bring Stitch to life: apply blue shades for his body, black for outlines nose and eyes, pink for the inner ears. Let everything dry completely for vibrant, even colors.

Paste in order, then paste the other components, and finally paste it at the back, then place the light strip at the bend below.

Step 4: Enjoy Your Work!

Mount your assembled Stitch wall lamp on the wall using the hardware, plug in or turn on the LEDs, and watch the character come alive with soft, enchanting light.
