DIY TRESTLE CONSOLE TABLE

Use laminated pine shelving and pine planks to make a Trestle Console Table in a jiffy!

YOU WILL NEED:

1 of 305 x 1800mm laminated pine shelving
3 of 32 x 32 x 1800mm pine planks cut to:

- 4 of 32 x 32 x 800mm - legs

- 4 of 32 x 32 x 280mm - top/base crosspieces

- 4 of 32 x 32 x 160mm - sides

Wood glue

16 of 4 x 40mm smooth shank screws

Rust-Oleum 2X, satin canyon black

TOOLS:

Drill / Driver plus assorted bit

Jigsaw plus clean-cut blade

Orbital sander plus 120- and 240-grit sanding pads

Quick clamps

Tape measure and pencil

HERE'S HOW:

1. Cut a 5-degree angle at the top and bottom of all legs. Also cut 5-degree off the inside top of all the legs - where the top section will be attached.

2. On both top crosspieces, measure 20mm in from the edges and mark all round. This will be a guide for attaching the legs.

3. Use wood glue to secure the legs to the top crosspieces - at the 5-degree angled cut. Clamp overnight.

4. While clamped, glue the sides in place as shown.

5. Attach the bottom cross piece with wood glue.

6. Drive a screw through the top of the legs into the top crosspiece, and where the legs and sides are glued together.

7. Sand all the pieces with 120-grit sanding pads, also rounding off the edges of the table top. Sand with 240-grit for a smooth finish. Wipe clean.

8. To finish this trestle console table I applied 2 coats of Rust-Oleum 2X satin canyon black. Using Rust-Oleum 2X allows the grain to show through, which I think adds to the finish of the table. Work in a well-ventilated space, shake the can well and allow each coat to dry before applying the next coat.

I left the top loose, but you can secure withsteel angle brackets underneath.
