Introduction: DIY Track Dolly

DIY Track Dolly

Step 1: See YouTube Video for Test Shots and Dolly Track Build

Step 2:

Tools:
  • Drill
  • Table Saw
  • Hole Saw
  • Drill and 1/2" Bit
Materials:
  • 1 1/4” diameter 10 ft PVC pipe (2X)
  • 1 1/4” diameter PVC elbows (4X)
  • Plywood - close to size of tripod
  • 2 X 4 (30" long)
  • 1 1/4” wood screws (6X)
  • Paracord or rope (20 ft)
  • Glue (optional)
  • Furniture sliders (optional)

Step 3:

Cut each 10 ft PVC pipe into 2 pieces: 8 ft and 2 ft


Step 4:

PVC can now be assembled

Step 5:

Cut holes in 2x4 with hole saw along center line to match spacing of PVC tracks

Step 6:

Cut 2x4 along center line to make two rails

Step 7:

Cut plywood to match tripod size

Step 8:

Mount the plywood onto 2x4's using the wood screws

Step 9:

Drill a hole in the center of one of the sides for the rope

Step 10:

Tie rope to the hole

Step 11:

Drill another hole through the center of one of the 2 ft sides. Feed the rope through the hole.

Step 12:

(Optional) attach furniture sliders to potentially smooth the camera motion

Step 13:

Enjoy your new dolly. See video for test shots.

    I can't wait to attept this dolly design. . . . . .it seems as if it will serve my purpose with reasonable time, labor and cost. . . . . . tanx and keep 'em coming. . . . .
