Introduce my latest wearable device, an owl electronic pin.

You don't need many software and hardware knowledge here, but you need a pair of dexterous hand, to make a lovely owl. I had never use wool felt before, It's my first attempt to make something with this thing and feel good.

And I feel that wool felt is really good things for making, combine with some open sources hardware module, you can make something really funny.

If you like it, please give me a favorite. Let's getting started.

Step 1: Prepare the Stuffs

Electronic Modules

Grove Joint

Grove - Joint v2.0 shares many similarities with Seeeduino Lotus. It is a mini ATMEGA328 Microcontroller development board. It uses an Atmel ATMEGA328P-MU and CH340. ATMEGA328P-MU is a high performance, low power AVR 8-Bit Microcontroller. CH340 is a USB bus converter chip that can realize a USB to serial interface. Grove - Joint v2.0 has two Grove interfaces included I2C port and two digital I/Os. It else support battery powered. You can do some simple applications with it.

WS2812B

Led WS2812 is an intelligent control LED light source that the control circuit and RGB chip are integrated in a package of 5050 components. It includes intelligent digital port data latch and signal reshaping amplification drive circuit. Also include a precision internal oscillator and a 12V voltage programmable constant current control part, effectively ensuring the pixel point light color height consistent.

Others

  • Metal Pin
  • wool felt
  • cardboard
  • glue gun

Step 2: Make a Lovely Owl

Actually it's a skill job, it's my first time to make something with wool left.

And I had find a wool felt tutorial video at Youtube.

Step 3: Connect the Electronic Module and Programming

Here we will connect the hardware. Actually there's a a Grove - Joint and WS2812 LED.

Just connect the leds to OUTPUT port of Grove - Joint.

You can use Arduino IDE to upload the code to joint, more at wiki of Joint.

Step 4: Final Installtion

There are few steps to do.

Connect the owl and hardware modules to a cardboard, you may use a glue gun here

About the cardboard, you can make it to the shape you like, I made it to a leaf.

And finally, fix the pin to the back of cardboard.

Step 5: Have Fun

Finally, it's done. You get a pretty owl colorful pin.

Wear it and go for a party, and you are the princess now.
