This DIY makeup remover is my new favorite thing - it leaves my skin makeup free and nice and soft. No breakouts, no oiliness, no mascara smudges! I use it every night in place of washing my face partly because I am a little lazy and partly because it feels so nice. I don't even have to use a moisturizer after! :D

I've started wearing a little more makeup than normal and that's led me to trying to find new ways to take it off. The commercial makeup removers I've tried have had a whole range of problems - too oily, too smelly, too burn-y. Some even caused breakouts around my eyes!

Just scrubbing my face in the shower didn't turn out as I had hoped either - pulling out eyelashes and finding mascara under my eyes made that seem pretty pointless for all the soap I used. But this makeup remover makes my life so much easier!

Step 1: Ingredients

witch hazel - alcohol free is best, especially for sensitive skin.
jojoba oil
filtered/distilled water

You'll also want a nice bottle to put it in - I'm using these because I love the droppers!

It's very important to use a filtered or distilled water here - I'm using reverse osmosis filtered water since we've got one of those filters at home. This will significantly increase the life of this product by reducing the bacteria present in tap water.

Also - you can absolutely switch out the oil in this. I'm just using jojoba because I find it to be much less greasy and non-irritating than other oils. I've used it as a body oil for years and love love love it.

Step 2: Combine Everything

You want equal amounts of witch hazel, oil and water in the mix. I used about 2 tablespoons of each.

Step 3: Using It

To use, shake the bottle and apply a small amount to a cotton pad or ball. I like to press it into my lash line to saturate the lashes and then wipe gently - that seems to work best.

Make sure to never touch the mouth of the bottle with dirty hands or used cotton - you don't want any nasties to start growing in there!
