Intro: Daenerys' Dragon Eggs

Throwing a Game of Thrones party? Every GOT fan has to have their dragon eggs! Learn how to make your own with this instructable.

STEP 1: Supplies

You will need:

3 Plastic Easter Eggs about 8 inches long
1.5" paper punch
Red, Green and Tan construction paper
Black, Brown and White acrylic paint
Hot Glue Gun
Green, Red, Tan and Black or Dark Brown spray paint
Scissors

STEP 2: Spray Paint Egg

Go to a ventilated area and spray paint each egg. One green, one red and one tan. Once they are dry take dark brown or black spray paint and lightly spray some spots here and there on the eggs. 

STEP 3: Making the Scales

You will need to make 150-160 scales for each egg. 

Start by cutting 2" wide strips of construction paper and paint black on each strip. Paint each strip with a gradient - going from black to more and more watered down black. (Use brown for the tan scales)

Let your strips dry. 

Punch 1.5" circles out of these dried strips. 

You will need to fold this circle to look like a scale. Start by making a "V" but don't come to a point. Start creasing the remaining edge to look like a curve. This is not easy. But you can use your fingernails to crimp the edge. 

Then bend the whole shape to give it some dimension.

STEP 4: Painting the Charred Bottom

Dab some white and black paint on the base of your egg to give it a charred look.

Let that dry. 

STEP 5: Glue and Glue and Glue

Not all your scales will be identical. Make about 30 slightly narrower scales to use when you get to the top of the egg.

Glue on the scales. Start at the wider base and make each scale overlap slightly in a row. Work around the whole base making sure they are in a nice even line. I eyeballed it but you can measure it to make sure.

On the next row overlap on top of the previous row. You want your curved point to be right over two cross sections. Continue this all the way to the top. When you're about 4/5ths of the way up start using the smaller scales you've made.

STEP 6: Reaching the Top

Once you get to the top of the egg, use one of your cut out circles and crimp it and glue on top. Cut a smaller circle about 1" and crimp that and glue it on the very top. 

STEP 7: You're Done

Pick off all your hot glue strings and you are done. Display and enjoy!

I would suggest doing the scales the opposite direction i.e. with the tip of each scale facing the top [narrow] end of the egg. I've never seen a real dragon egg but I think this would look better and more natural.

Thank you for the suggestion. I actually did contemplate this for awhile. Maybe if I make them again I will try and see. I couldn't find an egg shape that was 100% true to the show's - that would have helped a lot.
