Introduction: Dehydrated Dill Pickle Popcorn

About: I like fermenting things.

Got a lonely quarter jar of relish hanging around the fridge? Dehydrate it and make this!

Step 1: Mise En Place

1/2 c popcorn kernels
2 oz butter
2 oz dehydrated dill pickle relish

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Electric Popcorn Popper
  • Mortar and Pestle or Spice Grinder

Step 2: Method

Measure 1/2 cup popcorn kernels with the conveniently provided measuring 1/2 cup and place them into the popcorn maker. Fun fact: this measuring 1/2 cup doubles as a butter warmer, so put the butter into it and return it to its slot atop the machine. Place a mixing bowl under the chute to catch the popped corn. Plug in the maker and turn it on.
While you are waiting for the kernels to pop, adjust the grind on the dehydrated relish. You can use a coffee grinder, if you would enjoy pickle flavored coffee on every subsequent morning, or a mortar and pestle. The pickle powder is the salting agent, so grind it as coarse or as fine as you would like.

Step 3: Mix & Enjoy

Once all the kernels have popped, drizzle the drawn butter over them while tossing, for an even coat. Repeat with pickle powder. Enjoy in large handfuls with reckless abandon.
