Introduction: Divide With Abacus
This lesson will show you the fundamentals of dividing with an abacus, and is great for people who need to understand the basics of division better by comprehending it visually, who could be children at an early age or just anyone. I am using a quite large 10x10 abacus, but you can just use any ordinary 10x10 abacus. I will be showing you how to divide 50 by 2 and 25 by 2 on this abacus.
Step 1: Step 1: Divide 50 by 2
To divide 50 by 2, take 5 of the 10 grouped abacus pegs and move them from the left to the right. Since you are dividing 50 by 2, you have to find out how many groups of two there are in 50, so arrange the 50 pegs into groups of two, until all 50 pegs are used. Count the number of groups of two and you will find out that there are 25 groups of two, which means that 50 divided by two is 25.
Step 2: Step 2: Divide 50 by 25
To divide 50 by 25, it is basically the same thing as dividing 50 by 2 because it is all just division. First have your 50 pegs again all to the right, and then since you are trying to find out how many groups of 25 there are in 50, arrange the 50 in groups of 25, until there are no more pegs left to arrange, and you'll see that there are 2 groups of 25. This means that 50 divided by 25 is 2.
