Introduction: Doing a Silk Press
Most people use silk presses for style to straighten either textured hair, try to tame multi-textured hair, or straighten straight hair for convenience or looks; there are many other reasons for using a silk press.
Supplies
- Flat Iron
- Comb (optional)
- Heat Protectant (recommended)
- Silk Press Spray (optional)
- Cape
Step 1: Disinfect Area and Sanitize
Your station/area needs to be cleaned before doing a silk press, so make sure tables and chairs are clean, and All tools are clean and disinfected to prevent infection and disease.
Step 2: Wrap / Cape Client
Wrap client to ensure safety, prevent hair, dye, possible nicks, and sensory issues for clients with special needs.
Step 3: Test Iron
Test iron on lowest setting to make sure it won't be too hot / defective, use paper strip used for draping clients to test iron, on lowest setting (this iron's lowest is 280), and make sure it won't burn.
Step 4: Section and Iron
Make sure not to burn client, Apply heat protectant then silk press spray if client chooses.
Step 5: Repeat Per Section
Repeat per section.
Step 6: Finish
Finish, and take a photo for portfolio.
