Introduction: Double-sided Earrings

About: Creative @Heart. Creative @Mind.

Canvas + Yarn = Double-sided Earnings was the immediate title I could think of :-) These handmade earrings are simple, easy, and very much affordable within a short time span. Come along with me to learn this new double-sided earring. The leaf pattern and the web pattern. These earrings can be flipped and worn either way. The other side could also be colored differently or used as a mix and match option.

Supplies

  1. Plastic canvas
  2. Yarn (white and yellow)
  3. Scissors
  4. Needle
  5. A pair of earring hooks
  6. A pair of circle rings
  7. Pliers
  8. Transparent glue

Step 1: Pattern Symbols

With 11 Rows and 11 Columns, there are 121 boxes in total

R = Row

C = Column

R1 = Row 1

C1 = Column 1

R5C5 = Row 5 and Column 5

Step 2: Get the Canvas Ready

In this step, I cut the canvas with 11 x 11 squares (4 total) as seen in image 2. As you can see in this image the edges are rough. To make it more elegant and neat, I trimmed the edges neatly to make it perfect and smooth. Now, image 3 shows the squares are in perfect shape.

Step 3: The Leaf Pattern With Yellow Yarn - Step 1

I started working first on the leaf pattern. This looks impressive.

Pattern is

Stitch 1 (Image 2)

R11C10 -> R10C10

Stitch 2 (Image 2)

R10C11 -> R10C10

Stitch 3 (Image 3)

R11C8 -> R8C8

Stitch 4 (Image 3)

R8C11 -> R8C8

Stitch 5 (Image 4)

R11C6 -> R6C6

Stitch 6 (Image 4)

R6C11 -> R6C6

Stitch 7 (Image 5)

R11C4 -> R4C4

Stitch 8 (Image 5)

R4C11 -> R4C4

Stitch 9 (Image 6)

R11C4 -> R4C4

Stitch 10 (Image 6)

R4C11 -> R4C4

I repeated this pattern on the second square as well. This completed 2 squares with the leaf pattern with yellow yarn.

Step 4: The Leaf Pattern With White Yarn - Step 2

Now flip the image by 90 degrees and it should look as in image 2. I started working on the leaf pattern with the white yarn. This is the second half of the leaf pattern.

The Pattern is

Stitch 1 (Image 2)

R9C1 -> R9C3

Stitch 2 (Image 2)

R11C3 -> R9C3

Stitch 3 (Image 3)

R7C1 -> R7C5

Stitch 4 (Image 3)

R11C5 -> R7C5

Stitch 5 (Image 4)

R5C1 -> R5C7

Stitch 6 (Image 4)

R11C7 -> R5C7

Stitch 7 (Image 4)

R3C1 -> R3C9

Stitch 8 (Image 4)

R1C9 -> R3C9

Stitch 9 (Image 5)

R1C1 -> R1C11

Stitch 10 (Image 5)

R11C1 -> R11C11

I repeated this pattern on the second square as well. This completed 2 squares with the leaf pattern with yellow yarn.

Step 5: The Leaf Pattern With the Middle Running Stitch

In this step after completing both the yellow and white yarn as shared in the steps above, I then completed the running stitch as shared in the pattern below

R11C1 -> R10C2

R9C3 -> R8C4

R7C5 -> R6C6

R5C7 -> R4C8

R3C9 -> R2C10

R1C11 -> R2C10

R3C9 -> R4C8

R5C7 -> R6C6

R7C9 -> R8C4

R9C11-> R10C2

With this, the central running stitch in yellow yarn completed the leaf pattern. I then dittoed this on the second square as shown in image 1.

Step 6: The Web Pattern With White and Yellow Yarn

This web pattern is a different one and can be used as the second side. Flip onto the other side.

The Pattern is

White Yarn - Stitch 1 (Image 2)

R11C1 -> R1C11

Stitch 2 (Image 2)

R1C11 -> R1C1

Stitch 3 (Image 2)

R1C1 -> R11C11

Yellow Yarn - Stitch 4 (Image 3)

R10C11 -> R1C2

Stitch 5 (Image 3)

R1C2 -> R1C11

Stitch 6 (Image 3)

R1C11 -> R10C1

Stitch 7 (Image 4)

R10C1 -> R2C1

Stitch 8 (Image 4)

R2C1 -> R1C10

Stitch 9 (Image 4)

R1C10 -> R1C2

Stitch 10 (Image 4)

R1C2 -> R2C11

The pattern here is such that the yellow yarn runs parallel to the previous white yarn and vice-versa. With this, I completed both the stitches for the white and yellow yarn alternatively as seen in image 1.

Step 7: The Blanket Stitch Joint

In this final step, I picked up the leaf pattern square and the web pattern square. Held them together and made the blanket stitch along the edges and the last row and ran along the borders to seal it tightly. Finally, cut the extra yarns and sealed it with transparent glue.

Step 8: Attach the Hooks

With the help of pliers, I attached the small rings and hooks. Incidentally, both my sisters were sporting a yellow dress when I showed these earrings and they loved this matching pair of earrings. I plan on gifting them when we meet next. . I will try a few other patterns and have these ready in my collection.
