Dr Doom Mask

Making your own mask for Halloween, cosplay, et cetera is fun and easy!

Read on to see how this one was made.

Step 1: Materials

• plaster wrap(Amazon)
• bowl of water
• saran wrap
• towel
• scissors
• craft foam(8x10 sheets, any color)
• hot glue gun
• paint/supplies

Step 2: Face Barrier

You obviously don't want to plaster right onto your face, so you need to lay a few layers of saran wrap over.

Be sure to cut out small breathing holes; you don't want your patient to end up as a corpse.

Make sure your patient gets all giggles out now, before you start plastering.

Step 3: Get Plastered!

There are instructions in the package, along with lots of helpful tips.

Here's the short version:

• Place victim in a position where they will be comfortable for about an hour.
• A folded-up towel under the neck and head catches drips, as well as provides cushioning.
• Fill bowl with water, and start cutting strips into small segments, 3-8" or so.
• Dip a strip into water, then squeeze excess water by pulling between two fingers.
• Lay strips/pieces on top of saran wrap in a variety of patterns
• Continue layering for several thicknesses.

This stuff dries pretty quickly, so once you are done, have your patient relax for 20 mintues before lifting off face.

Step 4: Let Dry and Trim

Let dry for about 30 minutes.

Trim edges for a clean and comfortable contour. It cuts quite easily and nicely.

Step 5: Embellish and Enjoy!

For Dr Doom, we used foam to replicate the plates on his face.

First, paper shapes were cut out and arranged onto the mask. Once they made sense, they were cut out of foam.

It glues on well with hot glue, but remember that it cools/dries quickly, so you need to work quickly.

Rivets were made using a hole puncher.

Acrylic paint works great. Be sure to antique it with mid-colors for realism!

Fasten using a comfortable elastic attached to each side.
