Intro: Drawing in Excel

How to draw a real vector art? I found one funny way to draw a real vector art. Don't know if it will be of any help to anybody or not. So here it goes.

Step1:Open excel and select 2 column and start a scatter chart.
Step2:Set the max and min of the chart axix as per your image complexity
Step3:Download any image that you want to coppy and place it behind the chart (don't forget to set the chart backgroung to transparent)
Step4:Now enter the x and y coordinated in the two columns you selected (just use your judgement. You can allways go back and change the coordinates)
Step5:When all the points are plotted your image is done. Remove the image from the back and enjoy your masterpiece.

Don't forget to change the line color. You can overlap multiple charts to make a complex art. Also you can enter more coordinates to create a good finish. And don't forget to post your masterpiece if you make one.

Hi I really like this, thank you for posting
I am trying something a bit similar adding formulas
So I have a few drop down up,down,left,right to instruct direction of points then the quantities are entered next to these.
These vaslues are read into the array with formulas that tells the charts where points are and the idea is it draws any shape automatically. I am struggling a little but I think it is achievable! If any of yous have tried and achieved something like that I would love to hear from you!

Yeah, you can do it. I made a similar app before which adds rectangular vectors together and shows the tip-to-root graphical vector addition method on a joint scatter plot. What you need is a incremental addition column of x and y coordinates. The x and y columns will be filled with IF expressions. You have to add to x and y on each instruction, step by step. For example, if you have A as the direction select column, B for amount column and C for x, you write in x, second row (C2): "=C1+IF(EXACT(A2;"LEFT");-B2;0)+IF(EXACT(A2;"RIGHT");B2;0)" you get the idea. Continoue filling out the x and y rows like this, changing rows numbers to the previous row's number (Just drag the bottom right corner.) You can enter (0, 0) in the first row for æsthetics. Finally plot the C and D columns as x and y and you have your turtle program running.

Hi, found your post while looking for a category to post some of my excel artwork in. If you are interested, check it out on https://fineartamerica.com/profiles/devan-matthews.html. I use the basic principal of the spirograph, then run a couple of transforms on the data to give it a 3D look.

I use the same technique as above to capture data from printed graphs, it is an excellent tool
