Introduction: Dummy Door Lock Install Guide

The problem:

Unfortunately, it is becoming more & more common for vehicles to be broken into, especially vans since they often carry expensive tools and machinery. Thieves will often drill into doors to access OEM locks to open them from the inside, leaving the owner with a damaged vehicle and no tools, thus an expensive bill.

Vehicles affected:

Mostly vans, lorries and truck owners are affected by the common problem of having their vehicles broken into, but this universal dummy lock can be fitted to any vehicle, including caravans, motorhomes, passenger vehicles etc.

Our solution:

Our dummy door lock is made of nickel-plated brass, meaning that it does not tarnish or discolour in the sun or rain. It is machined down from a Euro cylinder lock, giving it an authentic look. The rubber surround is backed with 3M VHB double sided tape which is the strongest tape on the market so it will stay bonded to the vehicle for as long as necessary.

Within our kit you will receive a pair of dummy door locks, one for a side door and one for the back door.

You will receive:

1 or 2 x X8R Dummy Door Locks

1 x alcohol wipe

Step 1: Deciding Where to Place the Locks

These locks either come singularly or as a twin pack. If you just have a barn door then it is recommended to purchase a single lock, if your vehicle has a sliding side door as well as a back barn door then it is recommended to purchase a twin pack.

The lock needs to be placed around 2-3cm away from the join in the doors. This makes the lock look as realistic as possible as this is where a real lock would be installed.

It is important to not place the lock too closely to the door handle, as you would need to account for if there was a real mechanism behind the lock. We placed ours roughly 5-8cm away from the handle.

Step 2: Cleaning the Area

Once you have decided where you want to place the locks, clean the areas with the alcohol wipe provided. Ensure that the area is as clean as possible so the lock sticks to the vehicle.

Step 3: Fitting the Locks

Once the area is clean, peel off the 3M backing from the lock to expose the sticky side. Carefully line up the lock to be parallel to the door and firmly place the lock on the vehicle.

This completes the repair. If you need any further guidance on this install or would like to purchase the parts shown please call us on +44 01843 446643 or email us at sales@x8r.co.uk.
