Introduction: E-Z Mozzarella Bites

About: I like DIY. I am a self-employed computer technician.

Okay, bear with me. This is my first ever instructable.

New Year's Eve has always been a fun party night for me and my family. I always love to do a big spread of snacks and party foods. LOTS AND LOTS of deep frying! Everything from chicken wings and dolmades to mozzarella sticks and egg rolls and taquitos. This year I was late to go shopping and I missed out on some prepared frozen mozzarella sticks for my fryer, so I decided to bite the bullet and make my own. Last time I tried to make my own mozzarella sticks the mess was epic. The recipe I chose was quite messy with batters and bread crumbs and egg wash and such. So I decided to try an experiment, my success was awesome and I shall share it here.

Step 1: Gather Your Gear.

Here's what you are going to need for this recipe.

A package of mozzarella string cheese

A package of won ton wrappers

A small bowl of water

A basting brush (optional)

Step 2: Unwrap the String Cheese. Cut the Cheese.

Step 3: Place a Won Ton Wrapper on Your Cutting Board.

I like to place mine with the corner hanging over slightly as shown. This helps with rolling the cheese stick later.

Step 4: Wet the Edges of the Won Ton Wrapper.

I used my basting brush, but you can also use your finger tips. You don't want it to be sopping, just dampen it a bit so that when you roll it up it seals itself.

Step 5: Roll a Mozzarella Half Stick in the Wrapper.

Step 6: Time to Cook!

I set my deep fryer to 360F.

I put about half of the pieces that I made in the freezer for another day. When it comes time to cook those it should be done in 2 to 2 1/2 minutes in the fryer

The fresh ones only take between 1 and 1 1/2 minutes in the fryer.

Step 7: Secret Final Step.

This last step is completely optional, but kind a requirement.

I have an electric coffee grinder that I use solely for the purpose of grinding spices and seasoning. I keep a shaker full of pulverized kosher salt powder that I made with this grinder.

This is a secret I took from McDonalds. Ever wonder why they have the best fries? The moment the fries come out of the fryer they are dusted with that kosher salt powder. I do the same thing with just about everything I deep fry, and believe me, IT MAKES ALL THE DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD!

Step 8: Time to Enjoy.

These are best when served hot with a dish of heated marinara sauce, but they also work well with just about any favorite dipping sauce. My Laura likes ranch dip.
