Intro: EDC Vs Bug Out Bag

this is just a discussion for which has more importance bug out bag or everyday carry items and to help anyone who wants to create their own survival plan and doesn't have tons of cash.

STEP 1: Everyday Carry Items

I have included a pic of some of the weapons I also have added to my collection. from a useful pry bar and hammer to a bowie knife and dagger. I typically keep one fixed blade dagger in my bag with me at all times. OK so edc is typically my glock 27 with at least one extra mag, an apocalypse folder with tanto blade, window breaker, and belt cutter ($10 on buck.com), and my Coleman MAX light (3 aaa) (cost was around $25 bucks). These items are on me at all times. I have heard of some people carrying huge hand cannons or compact pea shooters. and keeping a bag like a messenger bag with basic survival supplies or school backpack full of tactical (and impractical) gear. My choice is to keep the basics on me and a small bag tucked within a minute or two of my location and my bug out bag in my vehicle and all the rest of my survival gear in bags and boxes at home but stored ready to go within a half hour to an hour. I give it that long because I want to be sure my escape is clear and I have all that I need. I also want to avoid the initial panic.

STEP 2: Bug Out Bag

OK so I use a field line tactical alpha ops day bag. it holds all my gear with room leftover. the molle webbing let's me add pouches like the small one on the front that holds my headlamp. In 2 pouches I keep my first aid kit. included are multiple gauze pads, bandages, alcohol and cleansing wipes, medications such as immodium, benadryl, pain reliever, sinus and flu pills. there is also a hemostat, scissors, and tweezers. along with antibiotic ointments and tampons(for bullet holes) and pads(for stab wounds) along with some medical tape. In another pouch is my survival basics. it hold small pouch of water, nutrition bars, drink mixes, 2 emergency ponchos, mylar survival blanket, lighter, waterproof bottle full of matches, 2 bottle openers, 2 can openers, handcuff key(you never know), and some fishing line(waiting on the hook). also in the bag are some fingerless gloves, a hydration bladder(bought at Walmart in hiking section) and several extra large zip ties. I might have left out something. like a bandana and some small binoculars. oh and I keep some safety shears, a metal file, and some multitools and a multi bit screwdriver in there too.

STEP 3: Grab and Go Bag

some people may think that I'm crazy but this is what "usually" is in a bag within arms reach or 1-2 minutes of me. I also keep my gun knife and light on me at all times so I can get to my stuff. Should I call that bag a everyday carry version 1.1 or bug out bag 2.0 lol. I also keep a "grooming" kit with me that is useful for if I have to spend time away from home due to weather or work necessity.

STEP 4: My Home Supplies

not gonna show everything but here's an idea. gotta have a long gun, keep the sidearm close, and I made that "hatchet". I also keep 150 rds(plus some) for my glock, 100-150 rds for my gf's walther p22 and several ammunition types for trade. in my house I have my blade and improvised weapon collection as well as my food and water storage. I keep my house supplies close enough to the exits where I can throw them out a door or window to a waiting vehicle. also I keep a tactical vest and other gear and weapons together with my alternate first aid kit.

STEP 5: Yet to Come.

OK so this is what I still am looking to get. I want to look into hatchet carry that doesn't cut me or is too hard to draw. also looking into conversions kits for pistol to carbine for better accuracy, and I'm always on the lookout for cool armor mods and even for a vehicle that I can load up but easily carries my family.

You need a zombie plow on the front of that truck! XD
beginning knowledge is good.. but that is why a book or pages printed and laminated are a better use of space. build a bag that has the knowledge u will need to survive. how to get food and water. for exaple plans to make water purification system are all absolute necessities. your bag is a great start. short term supplies are needed to allow for the time to get the basics. we can never carry enough water to drink but a bottle of bleach (please read how to use for purification beforehand, or iodine) is far better to carry than gallons of water. most people forget its survival and not camping. like most of us I doubt you have the time to pratice and use all the skills u will need. so a bug out bag with books, or compilations of survival data will be worth more than anything. that is what you should pack, whatever areas u are weak in that knowledge will save your life. set out geo caches for food and water in the short term to help u survive. it is just so many people forget that its not a three day event people are preparing for. so prepare for a new life. you may have friends that know this stuff but they may not live yo meet up. in the end, like today knowledge is. power... teach a man to fish and feed him for life, give him a fish and feed him for a day. dont give yourself a fish, teach yourself to fish. even a kindle would work for then info. just remember to pack 2. and have multiple charges methods from solar to a hand cranked generator. . your bag is a start, but prepare with knowledge on areas your weak. you have about 6 weeks with no food, a few days with out water. your pack must have multiple ways to find and get water.
i have looked up the info u mentioned and have started to put together my "library"
I have never unbderstood why people put aspirn or cough medicine in these bags. Pre-made bandages are a waste as well. You should have clean linen and scissors to quickly cut a bandage to fit, this also gives you scissors which would have countless applications. The meds are good for one day, however photographic guide to local plants that provide these benefits would be a better use of limited space. a guide to first aide would be, since we cannot all be experts in everything. Maps, books on plants and first aide, guides to killing and cleaning food. Plans on how to make needed items and where to get materials. A bug out bag for a few days of survival is one thing and one dose meds are good for this. But if survival is the purpose, if when u pick up that pack u may and likely will never return to that life you need knowledge. You need a plan for the long term. Having supplied to last afew days will only prolong your death enough to realize hoe screwed you are and that you would have had more of a chance if u had given yourself the ability to make a new existence, and the time to make that happen. Geo-caches are a great way to make that happen with this knowledge or supplies. in the end knowledge on getting food, water, ect is far more valuble than any carried water or item. Water is a great example if in your bug out bag you put 1 gal of water.. it may last you a few days.. when its gone you have maybe a few more if u di nothing. then u slip into instanitt and die.n however, a twenty ounce gives u a practical container ti use, and with the information ti retrieve, make, filter, or find water you have a chance. Preparing to only delay your death a few days is pointless. Give yourself what you need to survive. we can all spend our life preparing and learning jow to exist in a worst case scenario, so your bug out bag should give you the means to make that happen. Give yourself the knowledge you will need. how to find what you need.. we cant carry a lifetime of supplies with us, and we dont need to. Nature has it.. provide yourself with the knowledge you need to last. The point is survival and not delayed death we all have different skills so what we need in our bags differs... we all need knowledge and it doesnt matter what end u see coming your more vauble as a tool, if you know how to fish, rather than having a fish.
sorry i didnt mention it bc this is my first instructable. i have a beginner knowledge of plants. better knowledge of first aid and water preparation and how to get it . I left out my destinations and support methods. I have my access to books and knowledge.
i do appreciate your comnent though and read it for what it was worth.
